It would be great if we lived in a perfect world, but we don't. We live in a world where even the conducting wires in audio and video equipment degrade the signal passing through them. So, after you have bought that nice CD player, preamplifier, power amplifier, or receiver, and paid good money for great products, what are you going to do, connect them all together and then to the speakers with junky interconnects and cables? If the equipment designers have spent so much time in a carefully organized layout of parts and internal wiring, don't you think that the equipment deserves to be connected with the same care? What kind of tires would you put on a Ferrari? Ones that maximized the car's performance, or whatever you could find on sale?
The question of audio cables and sound is one of the most controversial topics in consumer electronics. Do you or don't you invest in quality cables - those designed and built with the same care as the components to which they are connected? We strongly suggest that you do. And we don't say that because we are in the business of selling audio cables. Actually, we got into the business of making cables because we found that they result in an incredible difference, and we found a way to build them better.
Teflon is generally regarded as the best dielectric (other than air) to insulate cable conductors. Teflon is not easy to work with, but our proprietary methods allow us to extrude copper conductors (some of which are silver coated) directly into the Teflon. Reactive impedance characteristics - capacitance and inductance - are kept to a minimum by the Teflon insulator, and arranging the conductors (flat strips) side by side, respectively. This results in some of the lowest capacitance and inductance values in the field. Resistive impedance is also low, only a very, very small fraction of an Ohm per foot. The final product is a cable that is as close to transparent as possible. And because the cables are flat, they can be placed under rugs, an ideal situation for reaching those rear surround speakers.
Nordost has several models of Flatline to choose from: Interconnects range from the entry level Magic 1, to the Black Knight, Blue Angel, Blue Heaven, Red Dawn, SPM Reference, and Quattro Fil - all with Teflon dielectric. Speaker cables are represented by 2-Flat, Flatline, Super Flatline, Blue Heaven, Red Dawn, and SPM Reference. Blue Angel, Blue Heaven, Red Dawn, SPM Reference, and Quattro Fil cables are all coated with a fine silver layer.
