The great mezzo Cecilia Bartoli is now in her glorious prime. Her latest CD, Cecilia Bartoli - Gluck: Dreams & Fables - Decca 289 467 248-2 with its eight rarely encountered arias plus a beautifully illustrated lavish brochure, should prove one of the great operatic recitals of the year.

As he prepares to exit the helm of the Minnesota Orchestra, conductor Eiji Oue offers another sonically superb Reference Recordings disc of the romantic repertoire. This time, on Reference Recordings RR-96CD, we've got Rachmaninoff's Symphonic Dances, Vocalise (for orchestra alone), and tudes-Tableaux.
