HP shows off its MediaSmart Server running the forthcoming Windows Home Server software. Bill Gates introduced the product at his keynote Sunday night, but I was a little surprised to actually see one in HP's booth already. The system is designed to be a backup, storage, and streaming server for both your home network as well as for remote connectivity. Even better, this is not limited to Windows boxes, but can also be accessed by your Xbox 360 and other Media Center Extenders. Storage can be increased on the fly simply by sliding in a new hard drive.

HP has really put out some excellent displays, including their Microdisplay DLP rear-projection units and their plasmas, as shown above.

HP's booth was smart in that it showed all of its technologies in a home environment, and everything was connected. The rooms were roughly designed like different rooms in the home. Here is a wall mounted control panel running a Media Center Extender interface, showing the various networked webcams. Pretty slick.
