Conclusions I truly enjoyed using the Onkyo. It has all of the features I need and sounded very good with all of my sources. However, my feelings for the TX-SR706 are colored, much like they were for the TX-SR576, by the model that sits between them in Onkyo's range, the TX-SR606. The TX-SR706 commands a significant $300 premium over the TX-SR606 and for that you get THX certification, more advanced video processing, pre-amp outputs and a phono input. I personally put a significant premium on pre-amp outputs and having the THX processing was nice, but you will have to determine the value of those features to decide whether or not the TX-SR706 is the right receiver for you. If you find the TX-SR706's value proposition compelling, you can be assured that you will be getting a full featured, well designed and great sounding receiver. Comments (5)

Does the Onkyo TX-SR706 run hot like most Onkyo receivers
written by Larry White , March 10, 2009 Thank you for a well written, thorough review. I have an enclosed rack with minimal clearance, so am very concerned with the heat issue mentioned in reviews of other Onkyo receiver. Does this receiver have the same issues?
BTB and WTW
written by jose , March 14, 2009 Does it clip BTB and WTW when routing video through HDMI like the TX-SR806 previously reviewed?
Onkyo has skimped on the power ratings with this unit
written by lakshman , April 30, 2009 A sound and vision test shows that it hardly puts out 35 Watts per channel all channels driven. The power consumption ratings have been going down in last few models of SR 7xx series. I really do not understand how this model and the SR 806 could pass the THX certification in the power amp department. The SR806 is so inferior to the superbly built SR805 unit from onkyo which was shown in the results of the secrets review.
Does it Clip Black below Black & White above white??
written by Roberto Ruggeri , May 13, 2009 Dear Jose: YES, it does clip them. I purchased one recently and it can easily be seen from the DVE Pluge & reverse gray ramps. Disappointing for sure, for a product that was named S&V magazine Editor's choice for 2008(In my opinion it does not deserve this rating considering the HDMI issue) .Otherwise the audio is excellent. But I think you can consider instead the 606, I read on Ultimate AV that this one passes BBB & WAW. Write comment
