What they say

A fast, safe, and effective cleaner, DiscSolution from Musical Fidelity ensures improved transfer of laser light energy -- even on discs that appear perfectly clean to the naked eye!

Using a new and proprietary zero-residue oil-free cleaning formula, DiscSolution removes surface contaminants from your CD's and DVD's, enhancing the optical interface. Water-soluble and low in toxicity, it has undergone years of testing on the polycarbonate plastics of CD's and DVD's.

DiscSolution is available in a 2 oz. bottle for $29.95; an anti-scratch microfiber wipe is included with each bottle, specifically developed for plastic applications, absorbing the DiscSolution and leaving behind an optically clean disc surface.

DiscSolution is also extremely effective as a cleaner for direct-view television screens.

To order, call Musical Fidelity at (310) 558-0037 or toll-free (888) 828-DISC (3472).

DiscSolution is also available online at www.audionut.com, or phone toll-free at (877) 944-5505. Also see http://www.musical-fidelity.com/products.html.

What we found

Besides myself, there were two panelists taking part in the single-blind test. I deliberately hadn’t elaborated on the test item, when asking them to participate. I only briefly described the test purpose as a comparison of quality of the same music recorded on two different CDs (I purchased two identical Philips CDs for the experiment). I sat down in front of the CD player with the other two panelists sitting behind me, so they had absolutely no chance to see which of the two CDs was spinning in the player.  They were also given a paper and a pen for taking notes.

First, I inserted the CD sprayed with DiscSolution. Immediately after the playback of the demo track had finished, I inserted the untreated CD (devoid of DiscSolution). I repeated the process, alternating between the CDs at random. Sometimes I pretended the exchange and left the same CD in the tray, with the purpose of confusing my co-listeners.

The results showed a distinct preference for the treated CD!

Specific comments by the panelists:

"The places where the musicians stood in the studio, were in  better focus and more identified. The low-level details were more pronounced. The cymbals were reproduced a bit more softly, and the vibrato of the acoustic guitar was cleaner and the bass tightened."

Actually, I was surprised. I had expected there to be no difference. So, you should give this product a try.
