New GefenPRO ELR Extender Sends HDMI with 3DTV, IR, RS-232, Ethernet and Power over a Single CAT-5 Cable

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

Digital connectivity solutions provider Gefen today announced the availability of its second generation Extra Long Range (ELR) Extender for HDMI using Power over Line (POL) technology. This new model, the GefenPRO ELR Extender for HDMI over CAT5 with POL II, uses a traditional sender/receiver methodology to extend HDMI with 3DTV pass-through, IR, RS-232, Ethernet and power up to 330-feet (100m) in distance using just one CAT-5 cable.

Gefen POL technology is based on the PoE (Power over Ethernet) standard and frees the receiver from power requirements, while providing an additional 5 volts to power supplemental hardware, such as a switcher, splitter or scaler to further enhance system performance.

“This is an absolutely essential solution wherever power is limited in the display area,” explained Hagai Gefen, president and CEO, Gefen. “Installers can now use just one CAT-5 cable to reach way beyond HDMI’s limits using Gefen’s ELR technology based on HDBaseT.”

The GefenPRO ELR Extender for HDMI over CAT5 with POL II offers an optional receiver unit equipped with one additional HDMI input, so users can automatically switch between two HDMI sources, one connected to the sender, and the other connected to the receiver. Both sources can be alternately viewed at the remote location using auto switching, IR remote, local front panel selection or RS-232 control. When one source powers down, the receiver will automatically switch to the alternative source.

Both the IR backchannel and RS-232 connection on the receiver unit can be used to control the display from the remote location. This product is rack mountable and comes with a built-in internal power supply.

Kordz Announces New HDBaseT Extender

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

New device transmits digital media over existing CAT-5 and CAT-6 cable for true High Speed HDMI performance up to 100m.

Sunnyvale, CA – June 1, 2011 – Kordz, a leading manufacturer of high-purity HDMI cables, announces its HDBaseT Extender (PLX-HDB.4), allowing for the transport of uncompressed High Speed HDMI, 6-port Ethernet, IR & RS232 data simultaneously over a single CAT cable up to 100m. With no minimum cable length requirements, the HDBaseT Extender is designed specifically to work with long and short runs alike.

The Kordz HDBaseT Extender will allow for the wiring of multiple source units in a single point-to-point (transmitter and receiver) connection with the ability to have multiple devices attached at each end. Each side has an HDMI connection that supports up to 5m High Speed HDMI cables, 3 full duplex 100BaseT ports, for possible connection of up to 6 network devices, as well as IR & RS232 throughput capability.

Kordz adopted this new technology with the custom installer in mind. Utilizing existing in-wall Ethernet, the PLX-HDB.4 allows for easy installation without the multiple layers, devices and wires currently being pulled into a typical installation. This easy-to-install product offers automatic system initialization providing reduced installation time and call back rates. Installers will appreciate benefits such as true plug’n’play capability, exceptional performance, no need to find available power at the display end, and robust build quality. The receiver unit is an active powered device, but no external power is required. The unit draws its power, up to 100 watts, through the internal PoE feature making it helpful for installers who do not have an available AC power source at the display end. By plugging in the single CAT cable connection, you have an active power source for all your HD audio and video content throughout the entire house.

“Our HDBaseT Extender will be an important solution for installers given its simultaneous extension of multiple sources over a single Cat5 or CAT6 cable,” said David Meyer, Founder & Product Development Director of Kordz. “For the first time, we now have an application that permits true High Speed HDMI performance beyond the normal 30m all the way up to 100m.

The Kordz HDBaseT Extender supports all HDMI mandated 3D formats, even upcoming 1080p60 3D for full HD 3D gaming. Also, the PLX-HDB.4 supports 4K (2160p) XHD digital cinema and all available formats of HD Audio.

Kordz HDBaseT Extender is shipping now with an MSRP of $999.00.  For more information on Kordz, visit www.kordz.com.

Atlona Ships AT-HD4-SI40SR and AT-HD4-V110SR High-Speed HDMI Extender Kits With Full 3D Support

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011

AT-HD4-SI40SR Extends HD 1080p Signals up to 130 Feet, While AT-HD4-V110SR With HDBaseT Technology Extends 4Kx2K Signals up to 350 Feet Over a Single Cat 5/5e/6/7 Cable

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — April 19, 2011 — Atlona Technologies(R) today announced that the company is now shipping its new AT-HD4-SI40SR and AT-HD4-V110SR high-speed HDMI extender kits. The perfect solution for remotely located Blu-ray(TM) players, Sony(R) PlayStations(R), Apple TVs(R), video codecs, and matrix switchers, the low-cost AT-HD4-SI40SR extends full HD 1080p or 1920×1200 signals from an HDMI source up to 130 feet over a single Cat 5/5e/6/7 cable. Featuring HDBaseT technology, the AT-HD4-V110SR extends HDMI sources up to 350 feet at 4Kx2K resolution while providing bidirectional RS-232, IR, and Ethernet pass-through. In addition, the units provide support for Deep Color, HDCP, and full 3D, while preserving 7.1-channel digital audio, including DTS-HD and Dolby(R) TrueHD.

HDMI.org only certifies HDMI cables up to 33 feet, posing a challenge for installers needing to deliver a reliable signal from remotely located devices. To address this issue, Atlona’s HDMI extenders feature two independent power supplies and allow the transmission to be reliably extended by up to 130 feet at 1080p, 200 feet at 720p/1080i by the AT-HD4-SI40SR, or 350 feet at 4Kx2K (four times the resolution of 1080p) by the AT-HD4-V110SR.

The AT-HD4-SI40SR features seven selectable on-board EDID modes, plus a learning feature, to ensure that optimal display requirements are met. And while other extenders are not yet capable of providing 3D support, the AT-HD4-SI40SR and AT-HD4-V110SR can pass on the newer 3D EDID currently being used by 3D displays, while still maintaining a lower price point.

With Ethernet pass-through, the AT-HD4-V110SR eliminates the need for an additional dedicated cable run for displays with on-board applications, such as Pandora and Netflix(R). Support for bidirectional IR and RS-232 make the unit ideal for use with control and automation solutions. The AT-HD4-V110SR complies with all Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) formats utilized with specialized projectors or commercial LCD panels, and supports refresh rates of 24, 30, 50, and 60 Hz.

“We are very excited to announce our new AT-HD4-SI40SR and AT-HD4-V110SR HDMI extenders,” said Steve Heintz, product manager for Atlona’s Si line. “Although the AT-HD4-SI40SR is our entry-level active extender, we designed it with full compatibility in mind for current and future formats. Add to that the HDBaseT AT-HD4-V110SR’s ability to extend 4Kx2K resolution up to 350 feet with bidirectional RS-232, IR, and Ethernet pass through, and we can proudly say that we now offer installers a complete suite of extenders that work with today’s latest technologies.”

The AT-HD4-SI40SR and AT-HD4-V110SR are available now at MSRPs of $229 and $499, respectively.
