Furman to Introduce New Power Products for Audio Professionals at the 2012 NAMM Show

At the 2012 NAMM Show, Furman will demonstrate its new Contractor Series of AC power management solutions specifically designed for audio professionals, and BlueBOLT(R) cloud-based technology for remote monitoring and control of installed systems. In addition, the company will provide hands-on demonstrations of its protection and AC noise filtering technologies.

Furman Contractor Series
CN-1800S and CN-2400S SmartSequencers(TM)
Engineered specifically for pro A/V and commercial installers, the CN-1800S (15A capacity) and CN-2400S (20A capacity) SmartSequencers(TM) combine AC power distribution, protection, filtration, and sequential system power on/off in 1RU, 120VAC rack-mount units for installations of any size.

SmartSequencing(TM) technology allows large and complex A/V systems to be safely powered on and off with a simple press of a button or turn of a key, even by non-technical personnel. SmartSequencing’s bidirectional communications between installed units enable a primary unit to control and sequence multiple secondary units, ensuring multizone electronic systems are powered on and off safely and dependably from a single control point across an entire installation. Units can be connected via current loops at runs of more than 1,000 feet, and offer backwards compatibility with Furman’s legacy sequencers and/or third-party products.

Providing robust control options, the CN-1800S and CN-2400S are equipped with RS-232 ports and command sets for PC control or integration with control systems. An optional RS-232-to-Ethernet adaptor (sold separately) adds full IP-addressability to the unit, allowing it to be controlled, programmed, and monitored from a smartphone, tablet, PC, or any Web-enabled device via Telnet, direct HTTP connection, or Panamax/Furman’s BlueBOLT(R) hosted remote power and energy management platform.

Both devices feature eight rear-panel outlets — in addition to one front-panel convenience outlet — in four duplex outlet banks, with three of the banks capable of being sequenced on and off with an adjustable delay. All outlets provide clean, safe power with Furman’s SMP, EVS, and LiFT protection and filtration technologies.

CN-15MP and CN-20MP MiniPorts
For powered speakers or components located away from the main equipment rack, the CN-MP15 (15A capacity) and CN-MP20 (20A capacity) work in tandem with the CN-1800S and CN-2400S to expand the benefits of SmartSequencing(TM) throughout larger installations. Both products are also compatible with legacy (non-Contractor Series) and non-Furman power conditioners/sequencers via remote terminal blocks. Each model features one pair of AC outlets with configurable delay on/off options and Extreme Voltage Shutdown circuitry to protect against under/overvoltage conditions.

The CN-1800S, CN-2400S, CN-MP15, CN-MP20, and RS-232-to-Ethernet adaptor (model # BB-RS232) will be available in 2012. Additional Contractor Series products will be released throughout the year for even more installation flexibility with the SmartSequencing platform.

Panamax/Furman Awarded Patent for UPS IR Control Link

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

PETALUMA, Calif. — Sept. 16, 2010 — Panamax/Furman today announced that it has been awarded U.S. Patent No. 7,755,216, entitled “Uninterrupted Power Supply With IR Control Link.” Featuring 20 claims, the patent covers the learning IR control feature in the company’s uninterrupted power supply (UPS) products, which utilizes a projector’s remote control system to interface with the UPS. By learning the projector’s power control infrared (IR) signals, these Panamax/Furman units allow expensive projector bulbs to go through a proper cool-down cycle in a power outage before shutting off, thus extending their lifetime.

“We are very excited to receive the patent for our IR Control Link technology, an important feature that extends the life of projector bulbs, providing significant savings for installers and consumers,” said Dave Keller, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Panamax/Furman. “This is our 19th patent overall. Our expanding portfolio of patent claims speaks highly to our contributions to the power management industry, with groundbreaking technologies that solidify our position as industry experts.”

To avoid permanent damage, many video projectors automatically cool bulbs with a built-in fan, which typically runs for eight to 10 minutes after the projector has been switched off. However, in the event of a power blackout, the high-power projector lamp will drain the UPS batteries quickly and lose power while the lamp is still hot. As a large number of projector OEMs each utilize proprietary firmware and software, UPS systems have not been developed that can automatically interface with projectors to send them into cool-down mode in such a scenario.

Invented by Gerald B. Hoopes, the learning IR control feature of Panamax/Furman’s UPS products solves this problem by recording, learning, and mimicking the IR signals of A/V components’ remote controls. These units can send an IR signal to the equipment to force it to go into a low-power, cool-down mode during a power outage, in which the projector lamp turns off but the fan continues to run while being powered by the UPS, thus allowing the bulb to complete its cool-down cycle.

Panamax/Furman products currently available with this new technology include the MB1500, M1000, MX5102, and F1500-UPS.

Details of patent number 7,755,216, “Uninterrupted Power Supply With IR Control Link,” may be viewed at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office website: www.uspto.gov.
