BenQ Introduces SmartEco(TM) Projector Lamp Technology

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

Breakthrough Technology Reduces Power Consumption by up to 50 Percent; Provides Enhanced Image Quality and Extends Lamp Life

IRVINE, Calif. — Dec. 5, 2011 — BenQ America Corp., the first DLP(R) brand to incorporate Philips’ ImageCare(TM) technology into its projector lamp system, today announced that it has taken a further leap with the development of its proprietary SmartEco(TM) lamp technology to maximize energy savings. BenQ’s SmartEco technology combines energy efficiency for longer lamp life with optimized image contrast, greatly enhancing imaging performance while reducing projector operating and maintenance costs.

SmartEco technology saves energy and increases lamp life by dynamically adjusting the lamp power to different brightness settings based on the projected content. SmartEco lets the projector compensate for this process with an internal software solution that maintains the ideal color spectrum and also provides an improved contrast ratio. This revolutionary technology produces no more light than absolutely necessary and always adapts to the ideal picture setting.

When the projected content contains dark elements, SmartEco dims the lamp accordingly for those scenes without any loss of visible brightness for the viewer. This provides many benefits to users, including prolonging lamp life by up to 70 percent and reducing energy consumption by up to 50 percent.

“SmartEco is a significant breakthrough in projector technology; a true game changer that doesn’t come around very often,” said Lars Yoder, President at BenQ America Corp. “Particularly for users in the education and corporate market segments, SmartEco significantly lowers costs and enhances picture quality, so that going green does not come at the expense of performance.”

BenQ also provides online tools to help users calculate their yearly energy savings by projector model. By visiting the company’s “SmartEco Savings Calculator” page http://www.benq.com/microsite/projector/smarteco/ and entering information on their current consumption levels, users can find out how much energy and money they can save with SmartEco technology.

Available now, BenQ SmartEco projector models for business and education applications include the MS513, MX514, MW516, MW712, MX813ST, MX850UST, and MW851UST.
