Resolution Audio Video Hosts Rare Evening with Famed Audio Pioneer Nelson Pass

— Resolution Audio Video, known for offering the largest selection of high-value, high-end audio and video products in the Northwest, will host a rare public evening with renowned audio pioneer and guru Nelson Pass on May 20, 7 PM, at its spacious Seattle showroom at 5459 Leary Ave. NW, two doors south of Market Street, in beautiful downtown Ballard. Admission is free.

Founder and chief of Pass Laboratories Nelson Pass is a legendary audio designer who has been creating innovative, great-sounding high-end products for more than 30 years. A holder of eight audio circuitry patents, he has “influenced an entire generation of designers,” as audio magazine The Absolute Sound wrote in a profile, with ideas that “might seem like textbook orthodoxy today, but were radical at the time.”

“Nelson Pass night will be an exceptional event,” said Resolution Audio Video owner Larry Israel. ”I’ve already had inquires from people planning on flying into Seattle to attend.”

In product after product (“a string of innovative, often brilliant designs,” as Stereophile magazine characterized them), Nelson Pass ingeniously realized a philosophy of design simplicity and extremely low distortion and noise, often combining the two in unique hybrid designs that brought listeners the best of both approaches. Pass’ achievements include developing the first dynamically biased Class A amplifier circuit, developing a fully cascode audio power amplifier, and developing the Stasis amplifier in 1977.

He helped popularize solid-state, single-ended Class A power amplifiers, and developed the very successful Aleph series of products. He also developed and patented the highly regarded Super-Symmetry™ circuit, which improves performance by precisely matching characteristics of the two halves of a balanced amplifier, achieving exceptionally low distortion and noise levels.
