GoldenEar Technology to Debut New, Larger 3D Array SoundBar and Ultra High-Performance SuperCenters at CEDIA Expo 2013

In these short three years, GoldenEar has quickly established itself as one of the world’s leading high-performance loudspeaker manufacturers with over 200 specialty dealers in the US and Canada as well as distribution in 25 export markets. Continuing to build on a strong foundation of superb loudspeakers offering extraordinary performance and unexcelled value, GoldenEar is pleased to introduce three significant new products: the SuperCinema 3D Array XL Soundbar, the SuperCenter X and SuperCenter XL center channel speakers.

New GoldenEar Technology SuperCinema 3D Array XL

GoldenEar’s 3D Array Soundbar has redefined the concept of high-performance soundbars. By combining the elegant form factor of a soundbar with the extraordinary sonic performance of true component loudspeakers, the 3D Array has earned the highest praise from the press, dealers and listeners who have universally declared it the best sounding and best looking soundbar on the market.

The 3D Array XL is a larger version of the 3D Array, perfect for 70″ and up TVs. Like the 3D Array, the XL incorporates special 3D image optimization technology to achieve superbly lifelike, wide, deep and immersive 3D playback when used with or without rear/side surround speakers. This technology, pioneered by Sandy Gross, effectively addresses certain problems that have been brought up recently in a 3D audio research project being conducted by Dr. Edgar Choueri at Princeton University. Dr. Choueiri points out that the crosstalk that exists between the left and right loudspeakers and contralateral ears, especially when the left and right channels are minimally separated as we normally encounter in soundbar systems, is deleterious to our ability to fully experience and process the imaging cues so necessary for 3D imaging perception which are present in the recordings but corrupted in playback, especially with typical soundbars.

The SuperCinema 3D Array XL (SC3DAXL) incorporates left-, center- and right-channel speakers, plus a second set of drivers that utilize 3D Array Technology to effectively cancel out crosstalk distortion between the left and right channel. The result is a soundstage that stretches from wall to wall and beyond, with amazing height, width and depth that effectively envelops the listeners in a true 180-degree plus soundfield, even though the soundbar is only 62″ wide! All this is contained within a sleek, attractive 2.7″ thin enclosure that perfectly complements the latest super-thin flat panel TVs. When the SC3DAXL is combined with a pair of rear surrounds (like our SuperSat 3s) and a powered GoldenEar ForceField 3, 4 or 5 Subwoofer, the result is a mind-boggling true surround-sound experience that rivals discrete 7.1 speaker systems. In fact, it actually surpasses all but the best in the ability to dramatically recreate the realism of a live performance or a cinematic event. And even without rear/side surrounds, the performance is extraordinarily immersive.

The SC3DAXL incorporates eight of GoldenEar Technology’s cast spiderleg-basket 4-½” bass-midrange drivers with our unique Multi-Vaned Phase Plugs (MVPP™). In addition, there are 3 of GoldenEar’s extraordinary High-Velocity Folded Ribbon tweeters (HVFR™). The center channel section of the array, like the SuperSat 60C, has the 4 bass/midrange drivers arranged around the HVFR tweeter in a two-stage D’Appolito array, where the two drivers closest to the tweeter go all the way up to meet the tweeter and the other 2 roll-off at 800 Hz.

The 3D Array XL is an ideal match for 70″ and-up TVs and measures 62″ wide x 4-¾” high x 2-¾” deep. The beautiful piano-gloss-black-finished cabinet is aerospace-grade extruded aluminum with a marble-powder-infused baffle and end-caps. It can be easily wall-mounted using its keyhole mounts or threaded brass inserts, or shelf-mounted using its adjustable rear supports. Recommended amplification is 20-250 watts per channel. New GoldenEar Technology SuperCenters

GoldenEar’s new SuperCenter X (SCX) and SuperCenter XL (SCXL) center channel loudspeakers have been developed in response to requests by dealers and their customers for more substantial, more traditional, center channel loudspeakers. They are most appropriate for use in installations that can accommodate larger units, and that don’t necessarily require the more compact, svelte profiles and/or on-wall or on-bracket mounting options of our very popular and highly reviewed SuperSat center channels.

The SCX and SCXL are ultra-high performance center channels appropriate for the highest quality home theater systems. They are designed to perfectly complement and match our Triton Tower and Aon Bookshelf loudspeakers, both sonically and cosmetically. Their sophisticated industrial design is both attractive and functional, both minimizing their apparent size as well as enhancing their acoustic performance. Both new center channels incorporate a D’Appolito Array of 2 newly developed long-throw 5-¼” bass/midrange drivers surrounding one of our signature High Velocity Folded Ribbon (HVFR) tweeters. The 5-¼” drivers incorporate spiderleg cast baskets, for minimal internal reflection, as well as multi-vaned phase plugs, to minimize cross-apex wave propagation interference. Both also utilize top-mounted pressure-coupled quadratic planar low frequency radiators that both extend the bass response as well as provide the bass/midrange drivers with ideal acoustic loading and damping. Only 1″ of clearance is required above the bass radiators. The SCX incorporates one 7″x10″ planar radiator, while the SCXL benefits from dual 6-¾” x 8″ units.

Sonically, the new centers offer the same lifelike, highly detailed, high-resolution, smooth, open, boxless sound quality that our SuperSats are famous for, with even greater dynamic range, impact and low frequency extension. The retail price of the SuperCenter X is $599 each; the SuperCenter XL is $799. Availability is October 2013.
