Bowers & Wilkins Introduces New Subwoofer to the CM Series

August 2009 B&W Loudspeakers, the British manufacturer recognized internationally as one of the world’s leading sources of loudspeaker technology, has added a new subwoofer, the ASW12-CM, to the wildly successful CM Series.

“Our CM series has proven to be a global winner,” says Doug Henderson, VP of Sales and Marketing. “It has been difficult keeping up with demand, especially with the gloss black finish, but we are catching up and now adding the ASW12-CM to complete the formidable line up.”

With the arrival of the new ASW 12 CM from Bowers & Wilkins, the CM series is complete. Comprised of two bookshelf speakers, two floor standing models, two center channels, and two subwoofers, the CM series delivers a wide range of system options and easily the best performance/value speaker propositions in the market. Further, its elegant styling, and beautifully finished wood veneers, blend seamlessly into almost any décor.

The ASW 12 CM adds yet another dimension to bass performance in a quality home theater system. It is very similar in design to the ASW10, but features a 12-inch Kevlar®/paper cone with a long-throw driver in a larger enclosure with a higher power amplifier, to obtain deeper bass and higher output capability. The voice coil utilizes a large 3-inch assembly to easily accommodate the high internal temperatures associated with powerful explosions during action scenes, while the dual suspension maintains cone alignment and lowers distortion.

The driver chassis is a rigid diecast metal to prevent flexing under stress and further lower distortion.

The ASW 12 CM amplifier delivers plenty of power with its innovative 500-watt Class D design and can easily fill very large rooms with earthshaking bass, yet offers all the control necessary for tuneful music playback. The internal crossover incorporates a three-position switch to tune the subwoofer for the best performance in any room. “A” position provides 18 Hz, while “B” delivers 23 Hz, and “C” gives 28 Hz, all at -6dB. The crossover points can be adjusted from 40 Hz – 140 Hz.

Functions include: Input Level (Line In), Input Level (Speaker In), Low-pass filter frequency, low-pass filter bypass (line in only), Bass extension, Bass roll-off alignment, Auto-sense on/standby, and a phase switch. Inputs include: Line In (RCA Phono), Speaker In (Binding Post), and a 12-V trigger (3.5mm jack). The ASW 12 CM looks as good as it performs and is available in the very popular Gloss Black finish. The ASW 12 CM will be available in September, with a suggested retail price of $2,000 each.
