AM I MISSING SOMETHING HERE?

Let’s see. Today’s news says

(1) Record Oil Prices.

(2) Drug Resistant Tuberculosis is Spreading.

(3) Extensive Power Outages in Florida.

(4) US Inflation Rate is Soaring.

(5) Record Decline in Home Prices.

But . . . Stock Market Rises for Third Consecutive Day.

Am I missing something here?

Globalization. The stock market’s fortunes are a lot less “nationally” dependent and while America’s economy is slowing down, the rest of the world is not necessarily following suit. Moreover, the rest of the world has altered a number of its fundamental economic policies and is thus better able to withstand the shock of an American downturn (a recent issue of “The Economist” provides an excellent analysis of this, as well as some cautionary advice to those other parts of the world to not get TOO cocky).

No your witnessing the presidency of George Bush. Barring the power outage in Florida, his administration is mostly responsible for the US dollar deflation, surging oil prices and globalized ill feelings towards our nation now. You cannot keep spending $12 billion/week on a war while lowering taxes at the same time.
