Axiom Audio Launches New “Monster” Center Channel

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

Dwight, Ontario, Canada (February 2nd 2012) – Axiom Audio (http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/avdirectory/944-companies/1113-axiom-audio.html), long known as a leader in sound quality research, has added another center channel to round out its comprehensive center lineup. The company announced today the official release of its VP160 Center Channel, an innovative center speaker design that takes its cue from the M60 tower speaker, one of Axiom’s most popular products.

Designed to place dialog right in the center of the action, the VP160 Center Channel features the same 6.5-inch woofers, 5.25-inch mid-woofer, and 1-inch titanium tweeter as the M60 tower speaker. Using the same drivers gives the listener a seamless soundstage across the front array.

In order to match the kind of serious output the M60 floor standing speaker can provide, Axiom had to build a "monster" center channel. The VP160 weighs in at an impressive 43 pounds: not for the faint of heart! Because of its significant weight, the company does not recommend wall-mounting the speaker. Instead, they suggest putting it on a shelf or the dedicated stand available on their site, the FMS 160. Also included in the speaker are two signature vortex ports — corrugated ports exclusive to Axiom Audio that eliminate port noise — which allow even greater sound output from a smaller cabinet.

In an era where many loudspeaker companies produce smaller and smaller products, Axiom stands out as bucking the trend.

"We relentlessly pursue the most exciting audio experience we can provide," said Axiom founder and chief engineer, Ian Colquhoun. "Bigger speakers mean more emotion, more thrills, more explosions, more romance, more excitement. The bigger the cabinet, and the wider the range of frequencies you can provide to the home theater listener, the more realistic their experience will be."

By emphasizing the practical application of their ongoing research, Axiom brings unprecedented value to the marketplace, expanding on their ethos of high-end, high value sound with the VP160 Center Channel Speaker. The product is priced at $570, including shipping anywhere in North America (encompassing Alaska and Hawaii). It can be special-ordered in an inverted configuration for low placement under the video display (angling the sound up towards the listener) or in an in-cabinet version, for customers who are doing a built in wall of sound in their installation. The product can be shipped anywhere in the world that FedEx travels, and international pricing is available on their website.

Like all Axiom products, this speaker can be customized to suit almost any décor. Axiom offers 2 standard finishes (Black Oak and Boston Cherry), as well as over 100 customized finish options. If customers need a stain or finish that Axiom doesn’t carry, they can match a paint sample or wood sample to make a truly customized speaker. All the speakers are built to order in their factory in Dwight, Ontario, Canada.

Ian Colquhoun, Founder and President of Axiom Audio, created the company sparking a new period of progress in the annals of loudspeaker design with his work at the National Research Council lab in Ottawa, Canada. There he spent innumerable hours perfecting innovation after innovation. In 2005, Axiom installed its own anechoic chamber, a perfect replica of the chamber at the National Research Council, and became one of only a handful of loudspeaker companies in the world with such advanced research capabilities in-house.

The site maintains a home theater speaker forum where you can go to ask questions, offer advice or have technical issues addressed. If you’re interested in the latest information about any aspect of speakers, you’ll find it there. The experts at Axiom Audio are available six days a week to help you with your speaker questions and concerns.

One of the members of the Research and Development team, Debbie Swinton, offers a first look’ video of the VP160 Center Speaker on the company’s video center.

About Axiom Audio

At Axiom, we have one passion: scientifically proven superior loudspeaker design based on careful lab measurements and proven double-blind listening tests conducted in the Axiom listening room with a variety of listeners who do not know the price, brand, or model of the speakers they are comparing. This results in speakers of extraordinary musical transparency and realism. For more information, contact us by phone at 1-866-244-8796.

Furman to Introduce New Power Products for Audio Professionals at the 2012 NAMM Show

At the 2012 NAMM Show, Furman will demonstrate its new Contractor Series of AC power management solutions specifically designed for audio professionals, and BlueBOLT(R) cloud-based technology for remote monitoring and control of installed systems. In addition, the company will provide hands-on demonstrations of its protection and AC noise filtering technologies.

Furman Contractor Series
CN-1800S and CN-2400S SmartSequencers(TM)
Engineered specifically for pro A/V and commercial installers, the CN-1800S (15A capacity) and CN-2400S (20A capacity) SmartSequencers(TM) combine AC power distribution, protection, filtration, and sequential system power on/off in 1RU, 120VAC rack-mount units for installations of any size.

SmartSequencing(TM) technology allows large and complex A/V systems to be safely powered on and off with a simple press of a button or turn of a key, even by non-technical personnel. SmartSequencing’s bidirectional communications between installed units enable a primary unit to control and sequence multiple secondary units, ensuring multizone electronic systems are powered on and off safely and dependably from a single control point across an entire installation. Units can be connected via current loops at runs of more than 1,000 feet, and offer backwards compatibility with Furman’s legacy sequencers and/or third-party products.

Providing robust control options, the CN-1800S and CN-2400S are equipped with RS-232 ports and command sets for PC control or integration with control systems. An optional RS-232-to-Ethernet adaptor (sold separately) adds full IP-addressability to the unit, allowing it to be controlled, programmed, and monitored from a smartphone, tablet, PC, or any Web-enabled device via Telnet, direct HTTP connection, or Panamax/Furman’s BlueBOLT(R) hosted remote power and energy management platform.

Both devices feature eight rear-panel outlets — in addition to one front-panel convenience outlet — in four duplex outlet banks, with three of the banks capable of being sequenced on and off with an adjustable delay. All outlets provide clean, safe power with Furman’s SMP, EVS, and LiFT protection and filtration technologies.

CN-15MP and CN-20MP MiniPorts
For powered speakers or components located away from the main equipment rack, the CN-MP15 (15A capacity) and CN-MP20 (20A capacity) work in tandem with the CN-1800S and CN-2400S to expand the benefits of SmartSequencing(TM) throughout larger installations. Both products are also compatible with legacy (non-Contractor Series) and non-Furman power conditioners/sequencers via remote terminal blocks. Each model features one pair of AC outlets with configurable delay on/off options and Extreme Voltage Shutdown circuitry to protect against under/overvoltage conditions.

The CN-1800S, CN-2400S, CN-MP15, CN-MP20, and RS-232-to-Ethernet adaptor (model # BB-RS232) will be available in 2012. Additional Contractor Series products will be released throughout the year for even more installation flexibility with the SmartSequencing platform.

Aaudio Imports Introduces Majestic Three-Way Speaker System by Lansche Audio of Germany

Tuesday, January 17th, 2012

New Model No. 7 Boasts Acoustic Fidelity, Flexibility                                                                                                                                                                 And Innovation Plus Legendary Corona Plasma Tweeter

INTERNATIONAL CES 2012, LAS VEGAS, Jan. 10, 2012 — Aaudio Imports, a leading supplier of world-class high-end audio products, introduces the Model No. 7 Three-Way Passive Loudspeaker System by Lansche Audio of Germany, featuring Lansche’s legendary Corona Plasma Tweeter, at CES 2012, beginning here today.

The No. 7 Speaker unites acoustic fidelity, uncompromising quality and technical innovation with an extraordinary flexibility to achieve the best possible audio experience regardless of room characteristics. It delivers musical performances that sound as direct and natural as when they were originally performed, with no restrictions in dynamic range, frequency spectrum or the pleasure of feeling transported to a live musical experience.

The new No. 7 Speaker includes a new, improved version of the Corona Tweeter, a new aluminum front baffle, integrated adjustable footers for perfect leveling, and bi-wiring terminals. All are housed in a pair of majestic, masterfully crafted cabinets, 69 inches high by 17 inches wide by 24 inches deep, that are as dramatic in appearance as they are dynamic in sound.

The speakers reproduce midrange frequencies using two 4-inch cone drivers from Audio Technologies. They also use four 8.7-inch long-throw drivers for bass, the Corona Plasma Tweeter for higher frequencies, and two passive bass reflex ports in the rear. The 4-inch drivers’ low mass integrates crucial midrange frequencies with the plasma tweeter, while the 8.7-inch woofers consist of coated fabric cones of glass fiber and polyester.

A hallmark of Lansche technology, the Corona Plasma Tweeter, employs an 8mm-long electric arc to directly activate the surrounding air as a sound transmission medium. It comes closer than any other tweeter to the ideal of a point-shaped sound source with zero mass. The tweeter’s arc of resonance-free, voltage-modulated air helps it avoid the limitations of conventional tweeters to achieve outstanding impulse, phase and amplitude response, and an exact, three-dimensional sound. As a result, the No. 7 delivers faithful, coherent musical reproduction with incredible precision, speed and economy.

The rear of each speaker includes a connection panel with input terminals that accept banana plugs and spades for midrange and high frequencies, six terminals for making treble and bass adjustments, an IEC AC power jack, and a fuse. Two jumpers and two cable bridges per speaker are included with each pair of No. 7 Speakers. Bass reflex ports and an on/off switch rest in the middle of each back panel, and pairs of cooling vents are on the sides.

The particular acoustics of a room influence the sound of every speaker. A room’s design, the positioning of the speakers, the influences of furniture, curtains, and other objects can negatively affect the quality of a listening experience. One of the great virtues of the No. 7 is that it can be adjusted to the acoustic properties positioning restrictions of any room in which it is employed. For example, a sparsely furnished room without sound-absorbing elements such as carpets tends to produce an exaggerated treble response. A room with many sound-absorbing elements will make the treble seem duller. The two jumpers on the speakers’ rear terminal panel are for adjusting both the treble and bass responses. To change one, the user can simply pull out a jumper and reinsert it into a more appropriate of the available six terminals.

Lansche’s No. 7 Loudspeaker is available now from Aaudio Imports at suggested prices of $100,000/pair in a Satin Veneer
finish, and $108,000/pair in a High Gloss Veneer
 or Piano Black Lacquer finish.

The tweeter is exclusive to Lansche and legendary for its extraordinarily accurate three-dimensional sound. Through considerable research, Lansche developed midrange and bass drivers fast enough to keep up with the Corona’s lightning-quick response. Speaker models No. 3, Cubus, No. 4.1, No. 5, No. 8.1, No. 7 and No. 5.1 followed, providing Lansche with a powerful line of highly expressive high-performance speakers. Lansche also implemented steady design improvements in the Corona Plasma Tweeter making it, in Lansche’s opinion, the best tweeter in the world. Aaudio Imports Releases the KRAKEN, New Reference-Level Power Cord by Stage III Concepts

Tuesday, January 17th, 2012

Handmade Audiophile-Grade Cable with Large-Gauge Silver Ribbon Conductors Helps Music Breathe  with Effortless Clarity and Resolution

INTERNATIONAL CES 2012, LAS VEGAS, Jan. 10, 2012 — Aaudio Imports, a leading supplier of world-class high-end audio products, introduces the A.S.P. KRAKEN Reference Power Cord by Stage III Concepts, a world-class innovator in audio cable design, at CES 2012.

Stage III’s KRAKEN Power Cords are handmade masterpieces of connectivity, representing the culmination of 16 years of research, materials evaluation, testing, and listener feedback. The audiophile-grade cable uses silver ribbon conductors with air dielectrics to provide audio systems with remarkable, undeniable improvements in sonic performance.

Delivering a breakthrough in AC delivery, KRAKEN power cords impart to musical reproduction a sensation of rock-solid image stability and natural flow. As if powered by limitless energy, sounds breathe with effortless clarity and absolute resolution.

Named after a mythological sea monster of gigantic proportions, KRAKEN cables can be used with all types of audio and video equipment. They enhance the performance of a wide range of audio components, regardless of power requirements, while offering an unprecedented level of precision and control.

In developing the KRAKEN, Stage III created entirely new palladium/silver AeroStrand Ultra™ ribbon conductors. The KRAKEN’s six slow-extruded AeroStrands are larger gauge than usual, cryogenically tempered, and so efficient they can carry more than 40 amperes without the bulk and stiffness of more traditional wires with equal current capacity. The high-efficiency AeroStrands also offer lower resistance and better heat dissipation than traditional stranded cords.

KRAKEN cords also employ silver ground wires individually shielded with silver-plated braids, impenetrable radiation-proof shielding using an exclusive High Density Alloy foil, air dielectrics with FEP (fluorinated ethylene propylene) Teflon® air-tubes, and high levels of mechanical damping. The unique wire geometry features multi-layer construction with a silica/ceramic/ferrite mechanical damping and shielding layer.

The KRAKEN’s custom carbon fiber plug housings, also handmade and polymer-filled, help eliminate external vibrations. Exclusive Hyperion Ceramic plugs use a palladium-plated silver/copper alloy for their electrical contacts. The result is definition, clarity and a noise floor never thought possible, even without the use of a dedicated power conditioner.

Stage III’s KRAKEN Power Cords are available now from Aaudio Imports, among other select dealers, at a suggested price of $8,400 for 1.5 meters with each additional 0.5 meter costing $2,800. Discounts are available on a sliding scale ranging from 6 to 24 percent, depending on amount. They can be seen with other outstanding products represented by Aaudio Imports at the Venetian Hotel, Suites 30-121 and 30-122, during CES.

Aaudio Imports Introduces Reference-Level Air-Powered Turntable and Tonearm by Bergmann of Denmark

Tuesday, January 17th, 2012

Precision Sleipner Airbearing Turntable with Airbearing Tonearm Delivers Superb Musical Reproduction with Silent, Friction-Free Technology

INTERNATIONAL CES 2012, LAS VEGAS, Jan. 10, 2012 — Aaudio Imports, a leading supplier of world class high-end audio products, introduces at CES 2012 the remarkable Sleipner Airbearing Turntable with Airbearing Tonearm by Bergmann Audio of Denmark, a leading specialist in airbearing turntables and tonearms.

The Sleipner is a reference-level turntable powered by airbearing technology. It includes a linear tracking airbearing tonearm, a digital motor-controlled air supply, and a vacuum clamp to stabilize records. In Danish, “Sleipner” means smooth or gliding, and refers to what is sometimes called the best of all horses, the eight-legged flying stallion ridden by Odin, chief among the mythological Nordic gods. In English, Sleipner stands for a supreme achievement in turntable technology.

The Sleipner is built with a simple, timeless design, in keeping with Bergmann’s “Less is more” philosophy, and in keeping with Bergmann’s airbearing technology, which offers a number of advantages. The airbearing process is frictionless, for example, minimizing bearing noise and yielding exceptional stability. The airbearing tonearm glides friction-free and only makes contact with a record through the stylus tip and tonearm wire. The result is an emotionally engaging musical reproduction with an unexpectedly effective bass response that transmits nuances and details as natural elements of a vivid and transparent acoustic image.

The Sleipner’s plinth, or base, is a six-layer sandwich of different materials for optimal resonance control. The sandwich consists of three boards of powdered granite/epoxy binding material, two layers of aluminum, and one layer of bitumen, all covered in a 12-mm thick coat of hand-painted and polished polyvinyl. The plinth stabilizes the tonearm, and rests on a set of sturdy, adjustable Ceraball feet, which house vibration-controlling ceramic ball-bearings inside aluminum housings.

A 20.2-pound aluminum platter rests atop the plinth, and atop a 21-mm record mat made of two layers of polycarbonate and one layer of acrylic. The Sleipner’s air supply both supports and centers the platter and provides a thin, dry film of smoothly flowing air, creating a silent, friction-free movement.

The linear-tracking airbearing tonearm
consists of a tubular carbon arm and headshell molded in one piece for optimal stiffness. The hollow arm is damped on the inside and houses connecting wires of pure silver. A highly precise, digitally controlled DC motor with an oversized power supply regulates record speeds, including settings for 33 and 45 rpm.

The Sleipner Airbearing Turntable with Airbearing Tonearm is available now from authorized dealers at a suggested price of $48,100 to $54,400 (U.S. MSRP), depending on finish and connectors.
