Anthem Statement M1 Amplifier Redefines Class D Category

Thursday, November 17th, 2011

The one kilowatt, single rack unit Class D mono power amplifier outperforms its class with sophisticated monitoring circuits that maintain proper frequency response, even when powering the heaviest speaker loads using a 120V line.

Toronto, ON – November 14, 2011 – Anthem, the leading manufacturer of high-end electronics for music, home theater and distributed audio systems, is now shipping the Anthem Statement M1.  Anthem’s game-changing monaural powerhouse annihilates conventional audiophile wisdom about Class D amplification with flawless fidelity and full dynamic range across all volume levels, flat frequency response and rock-solid stability into even the most difficult loads, no “dead time” crossover distortion, and virtually no noise floor.

What’s more, the M1 makes such radical improvements over previous Class D amplifier designs while still maintaining all of the benefits that Class D design brings to the table. Class D architecture provides tremendous value over traditional Class A and Class AB designs because of its efficient output and smaller form factor, both of which the M1 perfectly embodies. Its heat pipe cooling system and deep side-mounted heat sinks allow multiple M1s, with feet removed, to be rack-mounted directly on one another, each occupying only a single rack unit. Its fanless design also makes the M1 as well-suited for the quietest of listening rooms as it is the most crowded equipment closets.

“The Anthem design team conceptualized the M1 almost 10 years ago, illustrating just how much in-house design and engineering went into producing this amplifier,” said Mark Aling, director of marketing for Anthem. “More than just a slim, technologically advanced monaural, the M1 demonstrates that Class D architecture isn’t fundamentally flawed, it merely hasn’t been implemented well in the past, mainly because it required such a heavy commitment to R&D. We’re fortunate to have the resources necessary to create such a groundbreaking product and strongly believe our customers will appreciate the effort.”

Don’t be confused by the “D” in “Class D”—the Statement M1 is not a digital amplifier. It boasts all the warmth and clarity of a traditional amp, in addition to a temporal resolution more than 80 times that of the audiophile-favorite SACD format, and does so with an astounding amount of power. While Anthem’s own award-winning Statement P5, for example, outputs 500 watts with a 4-ohm load, the M1 delivers 2,000 watts to the same speaker, with total harmonic distortion remaining under 0.1% from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. (Into 8 ohms, it delivers 1000 watts with a less than 0.06% total harmonic distortion.)  And frequency response is load-independent, so the difference in response between a 2-ohm load and an open circuit is an astounding 0.1 dB at 20 kHz. Between 4 ohms and 8 ohms there is absolutely no change in frequency response.

The Statement M1 attains this level of power, performance, and consistency through the employment of a few key technologies, including a proprietary load monitoring system that relies on a Digital Signal Processor—outside the signal path!—to monitor line voltage, output current, ground fault detection, temperature, and DC voltage at the output to ensure the highest possible output from either a 120V or 240V circuit. Power Factor Correction maximizes available power by marrying the voltage and current cycles, enabling continuous output from the power supply through the entire AC cycle without contaminating the AC line with noise.

While all of this innovation adds up to an amplifier that is admittedly not inexpensive, the Anthem Statement M1 nonetheless represents an unparalleled value in terms of price versus performance, with ample headroom to drive even the most power-hungry speakers, and the utmost in clarity and focus demanded by the most discerning listeners.

The Anthem Statement M1 is shipping now, with a US MRSP of $3499. More information on Anthem can be found at www.anthemAV.com.

Meet the Anthem Statement M1 Amplifier: 1 Kilowatt – 1 Rack Unit

Thursday, September 8th, 2011

The single rack unit Class D mono power amplifier outperforms its class with sophisticated monitoring circuits that maintain proper frequency response, even when powering the heaviest speaker loads using a 120V line.

Indianapolis, IN – CEDIA EXPO 2011 – September 8-10, 2011 – Booth# 3224 – With a legacy of value-driven power and performance audio products, Anthem brings a new level of sound to high-power amplifiers with the Anthem Statement M1. Engineered with advanced load monitoring and power factor correction technology to satisfy demands up to 2400 W, even when connected to a 120V/15A line, the M1 annihilates perceptions that Class D amplifiers aren’t suitable for hi-end sound systems. Frequency response is load-independent – the difference in response between a 2-ohm load and an open circuit is only an astounding 0.1 dB! Between 4 ohms and 8 ohms there is no change in frequency response at all!

The M1 is also a true “double-down” amplifier with 1000W into 8 ohms and 2000W into 4 ohms, with total harmonic distortion remaining under 0.1% from 20 Hz to 20 kHz.  Class D amplifiers provide tremendous value over traditional amps because of their efficient output from a smaller form factor, and the M1 is no different. Occupying only a single rack unit, Anthem also outfitted the new Statement amplifier with a heat pipe cooling system that allows multiple M1s, with feet removed, to be rack-mounted directly on one another. Fanless and easy-to-integrate, the M1’s design makes it a serious contender whether installed in the listening room or in an equipment closet.

Since not every household has the ideal 240V mains to handle peak power demands, Anthem’s Statement M1 uses a proprietary load monitoring system. Included in the system is a digitally modeled time constant of the circuit interruptor, something that does not trip the instant its maximum current is reached. Similar to slow-blow (time-lag) fuses and service panel breakers, it is meant to allow momentary current surges which do not last long enough to result in excessive heat.

In addition, the M1 contains active power factor correction to maximize available power. Without it, significantly less power is available. The result is that while the M1 can put out 2 kW continuously when fed by 240V mains, it can still put out 2 kW for the duration of typical musical peaks when fed by a dedicated 120V 15A line, without causing circuit interruption.

“Anthem has a rich history with traditional hi-end amplifier design, and because we do everything in-house, we are able to incorporate that knowledge into the Class D Statement M1,” said Mark Aling, director of marketing for Anthem. “It’s easy to be fooled because of how slim the M1 is, but we can’t wait for the reaction people get from this powerhouse, both in terms of sound quality and high output.”

The Anthem Statement M1 has an estimated US MSRP of $3500. More information on Anthem can be found at www.anthemAV.com.

Aaudio Imports Introduces Innovative Stereo Integrated Amplifier by B.M.C. Audio of Germany

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

Two-Channel AMP C1 Delivers High-End Performance, Exclusive Technologies and Top-Level Build Quality at an Affordable Price

PARKER, CO, May 11, 2011 — Aaudio Imports, a leading supplier of world class high-end audio products, introduces into the U.S. market the AMP C1 Stereo Integrated Amplifier, a two-channel power amp with variable amplification and input choices, by Balanced Music Concept (B.M.C.) Audio of Germany.

B.M.C.’s novel Amp C1 is one of a series of amplifiers the company designed and built from the ground up to deliver music to loudspeakers purely and transparently, avoiding any intrusion of the amplifier itself. The Amp C1 is perfectly balanced from input to output. It runs cool and silently. It exhibits no feedback in the signal path and no compression at any volume level on the theory that it’s better to avoid distortion from the start than try to correct it later.

As a result, the amplifier passes music to the loudspeakers naturally and without the presence of the amplifier calling attention to itself. Apparent contradictions disappear, and listeners experience only the unbridled power and finest details of the music. Tranquility unites with dynamics, dissolution with warmth.

The Amp C1 delivers two channels of 200 Watts at 8 Ohms, or two channels of 350 Watts at 4 Ohms, supplied by a powerful, fully stabilized network with a 2-kilowatt toroid transformer, balanced-current capacitors, and complete stabilization that contributes to the amplifier’s background of unshakeable silence.

Exhibiting the modular construction and massive build quality typical of B.M.C. components, the 88-pound AMP C1 is housed in a sturdy aluminum chassis using the finest components available, and enhanced on the front panel by large Power and Volume buttons, and an easily read Stereo Power Meter. Key features include B.M.C.’s exclusive:

  • Digital Intelligent Gain Management (DIGM), a volume and amplification control that recalibrates gain without dividing and downgrading the input signal. DIGM enables the adjustment of left/right output balances in 66 1-decibel increments, avoids unnecessary high gain and additional amplifier stages, eliminates the need for a preamp circuit, and allows a DAC to directly connect to the amplifier. Benefits further include a very short signal path, low noise, and the ability to reduce noise and distortion by reducing the volume.
  • Load Effect Free (LEF) Technology, which achieves high output and high quality audio reproduction unaffected by faults on the transistor side. It provides a top-level signal without voltage amplification, and increases the AMP C1’s efficiency.
  • Current Injection (CI), which further increases the purity of the amplifier’s signal and the immediacy of its musical reproduction by processing the original input current up to its arrival at the loudspeakers.

The AMP C1 is operated by a handsome aluminum remote control. Rear-panel connections include 2 pairs of balanced XLR inputs, 3 pairs of unbalanced RCA inputs, 2 pairs of speaker outputs, and an AC power connection.

The AMP C1 Stereo Integrated Amplifier is available now from authorized Aaudio Imports dealers at a suggested price of $7,990/pair (U.S. MSRP).
