Foster City, CA –Pakedge Device & Software now offers its WAP-W3N Wireless-N Access Point, a versatile high-speed wireless access point (WAP) with n-band capability. The WAP-W3N enables high-throughput wireless video streaming in home networks, custom installations and enterprise-class applications.

The WAP-W3N offers high data-throughput with an 802b/g/n radio configuration, and its trapezoid-face housing enables optimum positioning of the unit’s three antennas. The WAP-W3N’s compact size, rugged aluminum enclosure and 1U rack-space wing brackets enable it to be installed in a server rack, or it can be wall-mounted or placed on a flat surface. The WAP-W3N uses a single Cat5e cable for both power and networking, making installation easy.

The WAP-W3N is highly configurable and is optimized for use with A/V system touch panels and control devices. It offers multiple SSID and VLAN (virtual local area network) support, enabling a user to segment a wireless network for different devices – for example, computers, A/V system touch panels and gaming systems – to provide the most efficient operation for all the connected devices.

The unit can be configured in four modes: Wireless Access Point, Wireless Bridge, Wireless Repeater or Wireless Distribution System (WDS). The WAP-W3N features software-controlled, variable power output, for maximum transmission/reception performance, range and security. The WAP-W3N supports the latest security standards including WPA, WPA2, AES, TKIP, WEP, RADIUS, MAC filtering and SSID Hide. The WAP-C3N offers n-band capability for high-throughput wireless video streaming, while the WAP-C3G provides 802b/g operation.

Because the WAP-C3N and WAP-C3G can be mounted in a ceiling (rather than being conventionally mounted in a wall or other location), they can provide significant advantages, including increased wireless range and more reliable operation because of reduced interference from building and construction materials.

Panamax/Furman Awarded Patent for UPS IR Control Link

PETALUMA, Calif. — Sept. 16, 2010 — Panamax/Furman today announced that it has been awarded U.S. Patent No. 7,755,216, entitled “Uninterrupted Power Supply With IR Control Link.” Featuring 20 claims, the patent covers the learning IR control feature in the company’s uninterrupted power supply (UPS) products, which utilizes a projector’s remote control system to interface with the UPS. By learning the projector’s power control infrared (IR) signals, these Panamax/Furman units allow expensive projector bulbs to go through a proper cool-down cycle in a power outage before shutting off, thus extending their lifetime.

“We are very excited to receive the patent for our IR Control Link technology, an important feature that extends the life of projector bulbs, providing significant savings for installers and consumers,” said Dave Keller, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Panamax/Furman. “This is our 19th patent overall. Our expanding portfolio of patent claims speaks highly to our contributions to the power management industry, with groundbreaking technologies that solidify our position as industry experts.”

To avoid permanent damage, many video projectors automatically cool bulbs with a built-in fan, which typically runs for eight to 10 minutes after the projector has been switched off. However, in the event of a power blackout, the high-power projector lamp will drain the UPS batteries quickly and lose power while the lamp is still hot. As a large number of projector OEMs each utilize proprietary firmware and software, UPS systems have not been developed that can automatically interface with projectors to send them into cool-down mode in such a scenario.

Invented by Gerald B. Hoopes, the learning IR control feature of Panamax/Furman’s UPS products solves this problem by recording, learning, and mimicking the IR signals of A/V components’ remote controls. These units can send an IR signal to the equipment to force it to go into a low-power, cool-down mode during a power outage, in which the projector lamp turns off but the fan continues to run while being powered by the UPS, thus allowing the bulb to complete its cool-down cycle.

Panamax/Furman products currently available with this new technology include the MB1500, M1000, MX5102, and F1500-UPS.

Triton Two Tower Loudspeaker

The Triton Two Tower is a high-performance loudspeaker with a built-in powered subwoofer. It is designed for superb performance in both high quality two channel stereo systems as well as in multi-channel home theater and music systems. Their sleek, elegantly curved and tapered design is important from both a styling as well as a performance perspective. The gorgeous piano black finish and compelling cutting-edge styling speaks for itself. However, additionally, the very narrow front baffle contributes significantly to Triton’s exceptional 3D imaging capability, which is especially important when used in 3D home theaters.

The built-in powered subwoofer section incorporates a GoldenEar designed 1200 watt DSP controlled digital amp to drive two front-mounted quadratic 5”x9” long-throw subwoofer bass drivers which are coupled to two side-mounted quadratic 7”x10” planar infrasonic radiators. The amp has a PLD (Programmable Logic Device)  based state machine with a 278nS update time to manage a myriad of functions including soft-clipping, DC offset  control, output-stage anti-saturation protection and discrete multi-band limiting. Intrinsic THD is extremely low so very little negative feedback is required thus ensuring optimum transient performance.

There are two 4.5” GoldenEar-designed cast-basket high-definition bass/midrange drivers which are arrayed in a D’Appolito configuration around the tweeter. The drivers incorporate a unique Multi-Vaned Phase Plug (MVPP) as well as a proprietary computer optimized cone topology that helps them to achieve smooth linear response extending beyond 20 kHz. Even though they are crossed over at 3.5 kHz, the extended bandwidth and smooth resonant-free response well beyond their crossover point helps them to achieve near ideal performance in the range in which they are utilized.

The high frequency driver is a proprietary High Velocity Folded Ribbon (HVFR™) design. The tweeter diaphragm is a high temperature film, which is folded like an accordion and positioned within an intense neodymium magnetic field. Unlike more conventional dome or ribbon tweeters which push the air, the HVFR develops higher pressure and velocity by squeezing the air out between the pleats of the diaphragm. The result is better impedance matching to the air in the room with greater control, smoother more extended response and dramatically improved dynamic range.

GoldenEar Technology Debuts First Speakers at CEDIA Expo 2010

CEDIA Expo 2010 in Atlanta will mark the official debut for GoldenEar Technology and will also be the venue for the first showing of its inaugural product offerings. GoldenEar will be showing at CEDIA in Sound Room 15 (SR15).

GoldenEar is the new speaker company started by Sandy Gross, one of the founders of Polk Audio and Definitive Technology, and Don Givogue, also a co-founder of Definitive.  GoldenEar is focused on creating innovative loudspeakers embodying ultra-high-performance, elegant styling and extraordinary value tailor-made for sale by high-quality specialty retailers.
