VMP Debuts Flat Panel In-Wall Box Adapter at 2009 CEDIA Expo

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

STEVENSVILLE, Md., June 30, 2009 Video Mount Products (, a leading provider of mounting solutions for the residential, CI, commercial, security, and pro audio/video markets, is proud to announce it will debut its new IWB-1 flat panel In-Wall Box Adapter at the 2009 CEDIA Expo, held in Atlanta from Sept. 10-13 at the Georgia World Congress Center, booth 825. Now shipping, the IWB-1 has an MSRP of $139.95.

“As flat panels themselves become increasingly slimmer, customers are looking for even more ways to get these mounted TVs and monitors as flush with the wall as possible,” explained Keith Fulmer, president of Video Mount Products. “That’s where the new VMP IWB-1 comes in. This in-wall adapter is set within the wall between two 16-inch studs, allowing the flat panel to be recess mounted and, thus, actually mounted within the wall itself for increased aesthetic appeal.”

The VMP IWB-1 flat panel In-Wall Box Adapter works in conjunction with the VMP LCD-1 Multi-Configurable Universal LCD Monitor Wall Mount or the VMP LCD-2537 Multi-Configurable Universal Mid-Size LCD Monitor Wall Mount.

Additional features of the VMP IWB-1 flat panel In-Wall Box Adapter include:

  • Holds most 15-inch – 32-inch monitors
  • Includes paintable decorative plastic cover
  • Includes cable and electrical knockouts
  • Collapses flush with front face
  • Load capacity – 75 lbs.
  • Includes silver adaptors for the LCD mounts (IWB-1B includes black adaptors)

The IWB-1 is yet another option for discerning installers and customers who demand both aesthetic appeal as well as the famed VMP reliability,” concluded Fulmer. “Whether in the home, office, or any other application where a low-profile wall mounted flat panel option is desired, the VMP IWB-1 is the answer.”

Sennheiser Sound Tour a Major Marketing Event and Online Reality Show

Old Lyme, Connecticut—June 2009— Sennheiser, the company whose name stands for high-quality sound to millions of music enthusiasts and audiophiles around the world, is kicking off a unique new marketing initiative. The Sennheiser Sound Tour commences on July 2, 2009, at Milwaukee Summerfest, the world’s largest music festival. In a fun-focused, music- and games-centric, and decidedly high-spirited fashion the Sound Tour promises to put young (and young-at-heart) consumers in touch with Sennheiser in new and unexpected ways.

The Sennheiser Sound Tour will deploy two highly mobile, road-tested teams of six—one sextet of girls; one of guys—on separate routes, with the ladies heading east and the fellas roaming the west coast. Their mission? To place Sennheiser ‘phones on as many heads as possible, all the while documenting the zaniness via “webisodes” in sound, pictures, and video at, and linking these through to associated Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube pages. Consumers and Sennheiser fans around the world will be invited to join in online, and even to mount team challenges such as to Sennheiser-ize people in a particular place, specific individuals—even celebrities.

Following the July 2 Milwaukee kickoff, the Sennheiser Sound Tour teams will diverge in brightly painted, highly visible Sennheiser-logo vehicles. Each team’s itinerary will visit retailers, music and arts festivals and other summertime special events; the full itineraries will be posted on the Sound Tour website July 2.

“The purpose of all this fun and action, of course, is to intensify our brand recognition in the market,” says Stefanie Reichert, V.P. of Strategic Marketing in the U.S., “And to do so in a way that underscores both the serious quality and the unique fun that have always been at the core of headphone listening and gaming.”

This sort of task comes naturally to Sennheiser’s North American marketing partner, Jetstar, a Canadian specialist with a long record of promotional and branding innovation. The Sennheiser Sound Tour targets educated, tech-savvy consumers who harbor a strong sound-quality preference for all their personal audio. In short, consumers who will respond to the accurate, detailed “True Sound” of Sennheiser, and who are ready to recognize the inherent quality of the brand. The Sennheiser Sound Tour slogan—‘Hear. I Am.’ speaks to the confidence of such consumers, while encouraging them to ‘own their sound’ via the unequalled quality of Sennheiser.

Wisdom Audio Hosts First Sage Series Int’l Distributor Training at Newly Expanded Corp. Facility

Friday, June 26th, 2009

CARSON CITY, Nev., June 23, 2009 Wisdom Audio (, the leader in planar magnetic technologies, recently hosted its first Sage Series international distributor training at its newly expanded corporate headquarters here. Distributors representing 14 countries were among the first to experience Wisdom’s new sound room, which is capable of demonstrating all in-wall and on-wall architectural models within the new award-winning Sage Series.

“Investing in the training of our foreign and domestic customers is essential,” explained Mark Glazier, Wisdom Audio president. “Our Sage Series has a unique technical story that makes training our customers mandatory. A very important part of Wisdom’s business model is investing in our customers and so we take great pride in enabling them with the understanding of our design and transducer philosophies, as well as training them on installing the Sage Series for their customers.”

Said training attendee Rico Voegeli of Genesis Technologies, which represents Wisdom Audio in 11 European countries, “It has been a pleasure to see how a few very capable people in our industry formed a real company with a real product line. A combination of innovation, experience and vision created a unique product category. The installation advantages and superb sound makes the [Sage Series] system a powerful tool for every serious installer. To experience how the product grew out of the prototype stage at CEDIA 2007 to an incredible sounding and well integrated system in the new Wisdom showroom was very impressive!”

Distributors based in China, Thailand, Norway, and Switzerland attended the four day event. Wisdom’s next international training is scheduled for July.

“During the training, we were impressed with Wisdom Audio’s expertise and attention to detail,” said Vince Cheung of Guangdong, China-based Fusheng Hi Fi. “Through a strictly controlled manufacturing process, technological breakthroughs are integrated into one of the finest speakers in the world, and we can hear the result…the sound of the Sage Series is just sensational. Sage clearly sets itself apart from any other architectural speakers and can be proudly compared to the most successful traditional high-end speakers in the market. This is something that has never been done before and we are proud to be part of it.”

According to Glazier, the Sage Series was designed to also address the diverse international market. Because of this, Wisdom has taken steps to insure the Sage Series meets all international safety standards as well as the unique structural and environmental needs throughout the word, including installation parameters and climatic considerations.

“Even in this worldwide economic downturn we find ourselves in, custom is alive and well outside the U.S.,” Glazier said. “Interest in high-end overseas marine and yacht installations, as well as installations in concrete and stone walls where we have an ideal mounting solution, were considered when designing and evaluating the Sage Series. We also paid attention to transducer development to ensure that it was suitable for both marine and high humidity environments as seen in tropical and equatorial countries.”

Now shipping, Wisdom’s complete Sage Series high-end architectural and freestanding speaker systems are at the forefront of Wisdom’s training and educational efforts. Wisdom Audio has recently brought to market more than 20 Sage Series models, encompassing in-wall, on-wall, and freestanding versions of most configurations ranging from 20 inches to 76 inches tall. As a result, the company needed to create an on-site facility in order to train and educate its dealers on multiple Sage Series configurations, including speakers, subwoofers, integrated Audyssey Laboratories™ room correction software, and dedicated electronics.

“I think, without doubt, Wisdom Audio’s Sage Series in-wall speakers, especially the L150i, are the best in the market,” said training attendee Winai Pawitwatana, president of Deco 2000 in Thailand. “I had a very educational and enjoyable time listening to them during the demonstrations. But, for me, the most impressive part of my visit was spending time with the entire Wisdom team.”

Added training attendee Frode Olsen, CEO of Acoustic Tuning in Norway, “We truly recommend dealers and distributors worldwide invest their time with the Wisdom Audio team at their Carson City headquarters. Besides fantastic people, they are the most professional people we have ever met in this business. World class products need to be taught carefully. The Wisdom Audio vision will inspire you to strive towards success.”

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – JUNE 2009: As the manufacturer of the high-end vocal microphones that have been integral to the voiceover industry since its inception, Neumann is pleased to announce its endorsement of Joan Baker.

In an amazing career that now spans two decades, Joan Baker has been “the voice” for hundreds of programs, promos, and commercials in TV, film, and radio. Her clients include ABC News, American Express, and ESPN, among countless others of equally high profile.

However, Baker is more than one of the most sought-after voiceover artists in the country, she is also an educator. She regularly shares her insights and techniques with students just breaking into the business, and she authored the voiceover artist’s bible, “Secrets of Voice-Over Success.”

Baker is also a long-time Neumann devotee, who learned her preference for the nuance and power of Neumann large diaphragm condensers through trial and error early in her career.

“I used to use whatever mic they put in front of me,” she recalled. “Usually it was a Neumann, and on those rare occasions when they gave me something else, I noticed the difference. It was very disappointing.”

Baker learned the importance of asserting herself. She always requested a Neumann so that she and the client would be assured of a satisfying finished product. When the time came to build her own personal vocal booth, she built it around a Neumann U 87, arguably the most famous microphone in Neumann’s contemporary line. In addition to jobs, Baker uses her vocal booth for voice coaching, where students benefit from hearing both the pleasing nuances of their voices and the flaws in need of improvement.

“A microphone can make or break a voice,” Baker said. “It’s one of the most important aspects of voiceover work. With an inferior mic, an otherwise powerful and resonant voice loses the fullness of its range. This causes the speaker to sound one-dimensional. With a high-end microphone like a Neumann, the voice sounds full and natural. The speaker’s complete range of expression can be faithfully rendered. Importantly, the high-end mic will cut through a mix of other sounds, whereas anything else has a tendency to lose or muddy the nuances.”

For better or for worse, Baker recognizes that today’s voice talent must possess a somewhat sophisticated understanding of audio, and the subject is touched on in “Secrets of Voice-Over Success,” the second edition of which will be released by Sentient Publications this June. The book takes a chapter-by-chapter approach to gain the perspective of twenty-one of the industry’s best-known voiceover artists and thus contains within its pages literally centuries of hard-won experience and practical steps for breaking into the business. In honor of Joan Baker’s father, a hundred percent of the royalties from the book go to The Alzheimer’s Association.

Baker’s vocal booth is expecting a new resident in the coming weeks – a Neumann TLM 67. The TLM 67 features the K 67 capsule from the classic U 67 along with some of Neumann’s latest technological advances. “I’m always looking for new ways to bring out the colors of my voice,” enthused Baker. “The new mic adds buttery goodness to my spots and will find a welcome home next to the U 87!”

Noted Christopher Currier, associate product manager for Neumann USA, “Neumann has always been an integral part of the voiceover industry and, now for the first time, we’re taking that relationship to a new level with the endorsement of Joan Baker. I’m thrilled to have her on board and can’t wait to get started on some of the creative projects we have planned.”

Neumann’s award-winning line of microphones has set the standard in the industry since 1928. In 1999, Neumann received the prestigious Technical Grammy(r) for its 70 years of innovation in microphone design and contribution to the music industry. A continuing commitment to provide innovative, technically-refined products and engineering solutions of proven quality ensures that Neumann’s stature will remain unassailable.

Neumann is proudly affiliated with the Sennheiser Group, which also encompasses Klein + Hummel (renowned sound reinforcement solutions) and Sennheiser Communications (technologically advanced headsets for PCs, offices and call centers). Neumann products are distributed exclusively in the United States, Mexico, Central and South America and the Caribbean through Sennheiser Electronic Corporation, located in Old Lyme, Connecticut.

Universal Remote Control Delivers Premium Zigbee Control System for Commercial and Residential MDU Applications

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

The MX-880z remote and the MRZ-260 base station comprise a complete system designed to eliminate RF collisions caused by simultaneous button presses in installations with many users in range of each other.

Orlando, FL – InfoComm 09 – Booth 3506 – June 17-19, 2009 – Universal Remote Control®, Inc. (URC), the pioneer in control technology, today introduced its first ZigBee products. The MX-880z is a wand-style ZigBee RF (radio frequency) and IR (infrared) hard-button remote control with a two-inch color LCD screen, while its companion piece, the MRZ-260, is a ZigBee RF-to-IR base station. To further reinforce its commitment to ZigBee technology, URC also announced today that it has joined the ZigBee Alliance, an association of companies working together to enable reliable, cost-effective, low-power, wirelessly networked monitoring and control products based on an open global standard.

URC, which has provided tens of millions of remote controls to consumers, residential custom installers and subscription cable customers, as well as consumer electronics manufacturers through its substantial OEM business, is officially entering the commercial market at InfoComm 09. Its solution-focused approach will address various installation scenarios in relatively inexpensive and more easily programmable ways than current solutions do. When used in tandem, the MX-880z and MRZ-260 epitomize this problem-solving philosophy by eliminating RF collision, which is a troublesome issue in hotels, apartments, condominiums and other urban environments where multiple RF remotes are used in close proximity.

The use of RF technology in remote controls enables the user to control A/V and automation components without needing to point or even have a line of sight of the component. Instead, the RF signal is captured by an RF base station, which then relays the command to the component in question via its native IR method, no matter where the component is located. However, when two traditional RF remotes access the same base station simultaneously, they effectively cancel each other out due to the resulting collision of RF signals. The MX-880z and MRZ-260 combine to solve this problem by using ZigBee RF technology. ZigBee allows the integrator to install as many remotes as required, each with its own unique ZigBee network ID instead of competing for assignable RF frequencies. Each of the MRZ-260’s four independent IR outputs is capable of simultaneously operating components controlled by four separate MX-880z remote controls. Effectively, it’s like having four base stations in one chassis.

The PC-programmable MX-880z can control up to 48 devices, with up to eight pages for each device. Commercial pros can be both creative and efficient with the MX-880z. For example, they can create status menus in macros, nest a macro inside another macro to create a complex routine, use variables to track power status, users or rooms, or create options that change in all macros based on one button press by the user. The remote’s color LCD screen is populated with colorful backgrounds and icons automatically, so the installer can focus on text label customization instead of arranging icons. A set of preprinted room labels is included with each MX-880z; installers can affix the proper label in the coined area at the base of the control to identify which remote is customized for each room. Powered by a rechargeable lithium ion battery, the MX-880z’s built-in motion sensor detects movement and automatically activates the remote’s backlighting feature.

The MX-880z is one of many URC remote controls that is programmed using URC’s Complete Control Program (CCP), which facilitates configuration and set-up by allowing the installer to work entirely within a single, universal programming platform.

The MRZ-260z is an addressable ZigBee RF base station with an integrated antenna. It includes four independently-routed IR outputs (two adjustable and two fixed), a built-in front panel IR blaster, a mounting bracket and a power supply.

The MSRP of the MX-880z is $539.95. The MSRP of the MRZ-260 is $189.95. Both are available now from authorized URC dealers.

The MX-880 and MRZ-260 will be shown with URC’s other new products for the commercial market at Booth 3506 in the Orange County Convention Center during InfoComm 09.

SnapAV Rolls-out New High-Performance In-Ceiling Loudspeakers with New In-Wall and In-Room Models On The Way

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Charlotte, NC June 16, 2009 This summer, SnapAV, a manufacturer and exclusive source of nearly 550 high-quality solutions for the custom A/V channel, will begin rolling-out a comprehensive new line of its Episode™ In-Ceiling, In-Wall and In-Room loudspeakers. The first wave of products, available for sale beginning this month, is comprised of five 6.5-inch In-Ceiling models consisting of single and dual voice coil, angled and surround sound varieties. Beginning July, two 8-inch In-Ceiling models will become available. The In-Wall models are expected later this summer with the In-Room’s targeted for the fall season. The new line replaces the brand’s original line of loudspeakers.

“Episode loudspeakers are our number one product development priority – and this new line is a powerful one,” says SnapAV Vice President of Sales Bill Harrell , “We started from scratch, utilizing the talents of our world-class design and engineering team and listening closely to feedback from our expert Dealer Development Council. Emphasis was placed on having a line balanced enough to fit 90% of the installation situations that dealers face everyday, without having so many offerings that selection could be confusing.”

According to Harrell, each of the new speakers utilizes premium components that far exceed competitors’ configurations at similar dealer costs. These components include second order crossovers, Nomex spiders and high-temperature long-life drivers. All Episode speakers are backed by a lifetime warranty.
”The new Episode ES500-POINT-6 angled In-Ceiling speaker is a perfect example of our design team’s prowess,” furthers Harrell. “An in-ceiling speaker appropriate for front-channel home theater use continues to be an important solution for the custom market. However, there has always been a significant flaw with these designs, as a driver recessed in a hard plastic cavity can create undesired sound reflections. To combat this, we lined the interior of the ES500-POINT-6 with an acoustic dampening material that eliminates these reflections and significantly improves imaging.”

“Dealers are telling us that the new models go ‘toe-to-toe’ with comparably priced  products from the bigger name speaker brands that have dominated the category thus far. We are confident that Episode will quickly gain additional market share, becoming a well-recognized brand and leading contender in the custom A/V channel by 2010.”

Boasting an attractive new industrial design, all InCeiling models incorporate easy-mount rust-proof grilles and plastic paint guards.
For installation convenience many of the new models incorporate pivoting tweeters. The new tweeter bridge is also sturdy enough to be used as a handle during the installation process. All In-Ceiling models include quick snug dogs, gold-plated push button wire terminations, and cutout templates.
