Wisdom Audio Hosts First Sage Series Int’l Distributor Training at Newly Expanded Corp. Facility

iPort® Announces New Generation of its In-Wall Digital Media System for the Apple iPod®

The IW product line now features a variety of improvements and functions consolidated into three new models all of which feature USB charging capability.

The discreet housing features a paintable flange and an interior of polished white ABS plastic that complements the styling of the iPod and includes an adjustable, rubberized back-support disc to secure the various sizes of iPod models that may be docked. Docking and undocking are a breeze and once placed in the dock, an iPod stays charged, thanks to a regulated DC power supply that connects to the receiving wall plate.

In an amazing career that now spans two decades, Joan Baker has been “the voice” for hundreds of programs, promos, and commercials in TV, film, and radio. Her clients include ABC News, American Express, and ESPN, among countless others of equally high profile.

However, Baker is more than one of the most sought-after voiceover artists in the country, she is also an educator. She regularly shares her insights and techniques with students just breaking into the business, and she authored the voiceover artist’s bible, “Secrets of Voice-Over Success.”

Baker is also a long-time Neumann devotee, who learned her preference for the nuance and power of Neumann large diaphragm condensers through trial and error early in her career.

“A microphone can make or break a voice,” Baker said. “It’s one of the most important aspects of voiceover work. With an inferior mic, an otherwise powerful and resonant voice loses the fullness of its range. This causes the speaker to sound one-dimensional. With a high-end microphone like a Neumann, the voice sounds full and natural. The speaker’s complete range of expression can be faithfully rendered. Importantly, the high-end mic will cut through a mix of other sounds, whereas anything else has a tendency to lose or muddy the nuances.”

For better or for worse, Baker recognizes that today’s voice talent must possess a somewhat sophisticated understanding of audio, and the subject is touched on in “Secrets of Voice-Over Success,” the second edition of which will be released by Sentient Publications this June. The book takes a chapter-by-chapter approach to gain the perspective of twenty-one of the industry’s best-known voiceover artists and thus contains within its pages literally centuries of hard-won experience and practical steps for breaking into the business. In honor of Joan Baker’s father, a hundred percent of the royalties from the book go to The Alzheimer’s Association.

Baker’s vocal booth is expecting a new resident in the coming weeks – a Neumann TLM 67. Universal Remote Control Delivers Premium Zigbee Control System for Commercial and Residential MDU Applications

The MX-880z remote and the MRZ-260 base station comprise a complete system designed to eliminate RF collisions caused by simultaneous button presses in installations with many users in range of each other.

Orlando, FL – InfoComm 09 – Booth 3506 – June 17-19, 2009 – Universal Remote Control®, Inc. (URC), the pioneer in control technology, today introduced its first ZigBee products. The MX-880z is a wand-style ZigBee RF (radio frequency) and IR (infrared) hard-button remote control with a two-inch color LCD screen, while its companion piece, the MRZ-260, is a ZigBee RF-to-IR base station. To further reinforce its commitment to ZigBee technology, URC also announced today that it has joined the ZigBee Alliance, an association of companies working together to enable reliable, cost-effective, low-power, wirelessly networked monitoring and control products based on an open global standard.

URC, which has provided tens of millions of remote controls to consumers, residential custom installers and subscription cable customers, as well as consumer electronics manufacturers through its substantial OEM business, is officially entering the commercial market at InfoComm 09. Its solution-focused approach will address various installation scenarios in relatively inexpensive and more easily programmable ways than current solutions do. When used in tandem, the MX-880z and MRZ-260 epitomize this problem-solving philosophy by eliminating RF collision, which is a troublesome issue in hotels, apartments, condominiums and other urban environments where multiple RF remotes are used in close proximity.

The use of RF technology in remote controls enables the user to control A/V and automation components without needing to point or even have a line of sight of the component. Instead, the RF signal is captured by an RF base station, which then relays the command to the component in question via its native IR method, no matter where the component is located. However, when two traditional RF remotes access the same base station simultaneously, they effectively cancel each other out due to the resulting collision of RF signals. The MX-880z and MRZ-260 combine to solve this problem by using ZigBee RF technology. ZigBee allows the integrator to install as many remotes as required, each with its own unique ZigBee network ID instead of competing for assignable RF frequencies. Each of the MRZ-260’s four independent IR outputs is capable of simultaneously operating components controlled by four separate MX-880z remote controls. Effectively, it’s like having four base stations in one chassis. 

The PC-programmable MX-880z can control up to 48 devices, with up to eight pages for each device. Commercial pros can be both creative and efficient with the MX-880z. For example, they can create status menus in macros, nest a macro inside another macro to create a complex routine, use variables to track power status, users or rooms, or create options that change in all macros based on one button press by the user. The remote’s color LCD screen is populated with colorful backgrounds and icons automatically, so the installer can focus on text label customization instead of arranging icons. A set of preprinted room labels is included with each MX-880z; installers can affix the proper label in the coined area at the base of the control to identify which remote is customized for each room. Powered by a rechargeable lithium ion battery, the MX-880z’s built-in motion sensor detects movement and automatically activates the remote’s backlighting feature.

 

The MX-880z is one of many URC remote controls that is programmed using URC’s Complete Control Program (CCP), which facilitates configuration and set-up by allowing the installer to work entirely within a single, universal programming platform.

 The MRZ-260z is an addressable ZigBee RF base station with an integrated antenna. It includes four independently-routed IR outputs (two adjustable and two fixed), a built-in front panel IR blaster, a mounting bracket and a power supply. 

The MSRP of the MX-880z is $539.95. The MSRP of the MRZ-260 is $189.95. Both are available now from authorized URC dealers. 

The MX-880 and MRZ-260 will be shown with URC’s other new products for the commercial market at Booth 3506 in the Orange County Convention Center during InfoComm 09.

SnapAV Rolls-out New High-Performance In-Ceiling Loudspeakers with New In-Wall and In-Room Models On The Way

Charlotte, NC June 16, 2009 This summer, SnapAV, a manufacturer and exclusive source of nearly 550 high-quality solutions for the custom A/V channel, will begin rolling-out a comprehensive new line of its Episode™ In-Ceiling, In-Wall and In-Room loudspeakers. The first wave of products, available for sale beginning this month, is comprised of five 6.5-inch In-Ceiling models consisting of single and dual voice coil, angled and surround sound varieties. Beginning July, two 8-inch In-Ceiling models will become available. The In-Wall models are expected later this summer with the In-Room’s targeted for the fall season. The new line replaces the brand’s original line of loudspeakers.

“Episode loudspeakers are our number one product development priority – and this new line is a powerful one,” says SnapAV Vice President of Sales Bill Harrell , “We started from scratch, utilizing the talents of our world-class design and engineering team and listening closely to feedback from our expert Dealer Development Council. Emphasis was placed on having a line balanced enough to fit 90% of the installation situations that dealers face everyday, without having so many offerings that selection could be confusing.”

According to Harrell, each of the new speakers utilizes premium components that far exceed competitors’ configurations at similar dealer costs. These components include second order crossovers, Nomex spiders and high-temperature long-life drivers. All Episode speakers are backed by a lifetime warranty.
”The new Episode ES500-POINT-6 angled In-Ceiling speaker is a perfect example of our design team’s prowess,” furthers Harrell. “An in-ceiling speaker appropriate for front-channel home theater use continues to be an important solution for the custom market. However, there has always been a significant flaw with these designs, as a driver recessed in a hard plastic cavity can create undesired sound reflections. To combat this, we lined the interior of the ES500-POINT-6 with an acoustic dampening material that eliminates these reflections and significantly improves imaging.”

Boasting an attractive new industrial design, all InCeiling models incorporate easy-mount rust-proof grilles and plastic paint guards.
For installation convenience many of the new models incorporate pivoting tweeters. The new tweeter bridge is also sturdy enough to be used as a handle during the installation process. All In-Ceiling models include quick snug dogs, gold-plated push button wire terminations, and cutout templates.
