Atlantic Technology Debuts New Home Theater Speaker Systems and Box Subwoofer Lineup

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

NORWOOD, MA (5/5/09) — Atlantic Technology, the premier manufacturer of loudspeakers and subwoofers designed expressly for home theater, has introduced three new compact speaker systems, and a new line of box subwoofers. The new lineup marks the most substantial redesign of the company’s freestanding speaker offerings in over five years.

“Over the last few years, we’ve focused our research and development programs primarily on our in-wall and in-ceiling products,” comments Atlantic Technology president Peter Tribeman. “Much of that research, which has paid off so handsomely in our architectural speaker offerings, has substantial application for freestanding speakers as well – and we decided that it was time to upgrade those series as well.”

The new compact speaker introductions consist of three separate multichannel speaker systems, designated the Atlantic Technology System 1400, System 2400, and the THX Select certified System 4400; these series replace the company’s acclaimed System 1200, 2200, and 4200e. Each of these series consists of three models, a two-way LR front channel speaker, two-way horizontal MTM center channel, and a dipole/bipole selectable surround channel speaker. Each series is intended for use with any of the company’s subwoofer offerings, allowing dealers and consumers to specify speaker packages to accommodate a wide range of theater rooms and listening preferences.

New features across the Atlantic Technology home theater speaker offerings include the addition of the company’s LRT™ (Low Resonance Tweeter) in the System 1400 and 2400, new on-wall mounting capabilities for the System 4400, and updated aesthetics to match the company’s larger floorstanding speaker lines. Also, an entirely new speaker, the dipole/bipole selectable System 1400 SR-Z, is expected to find widespread application as the height channel speaker in home theater systems equipped with the new Dolby ProLogic IIz audio technology. The 1400 SR-Z is also well suited for conventional applications as the left/right or rear surround channels in 5.1 and 7.1-channel theater systems.

Atlantic has also introduced its new line of SB powered subwoofers.  The line includes a new, more powerful 350 watt version of the popular 642e SB, as well as three all-new models, the 325 watt 444 SB, the 220 watt 334 SB, and the 180 watt 224 SB. Each of the models features a long-throw composite cone woofer in a sealed acoustic suspension enclosure, as well as the company’s proprietary CFT™ (Clear Filter Technology) for crisp, precise bass response.  The series is designed to provide high-quality deep bass output levels to suit a wide range of room sizes and listening preferences.

All of the new Atlantic Technology speaker systems and subwoofers will be available in late May. Suggested retail pricing for complete 5.1-channel systems ranges from $1,680 to $3,800, depending on series, subwoofer, and configuration. Detailed information, specifications, and pricing are available in the individual press releases:  System 1400, System 2400, System 4400, SB Subwoofers.

From its inception, Atlantic Technology’s mission has been to produce home entertainment products that exemplify the very best in both performance and value. The company specializes in complete high-performance multi-channel speaker systems, state-of-the-art home theater electronics components, and products for custom audio/video installation.

Atlantic Technology speaker systems are designed and engineered as integrated multi-channel ensembles, and hand assembled at the company’s Norwood, MA facility. These systems are tailored and tuned to provide a seamless and startlingly realistic soundstage for multi-channel music and home theater.

Rotel introduces new 15 Series stereo audio components

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

North Reading, MA—May 2009—Home audio electronics manufacturer Rotel has been known worldwide for creating components for nearly five decades that deliver very serious audio and video performance, at affordable prices.  Since the introduction of the new 15 Series home theater components late in 2008, Rotel has set a new standard of excellence and now introduces new two channel components: Integrated amp, CD Player, stereo and power preamplifiers.

“The 15 Series is Rotel’s most important introduction in many years,” says Rotel VP of Sales & Marketing, Doug Henderson. “And while these new models incorporate a lot of the latest advanced technologies and include some important refinements of Rotel’s unique amplifier design, the one thing they do not alter is our company’s commitment to musical performance above all else.” Henderson concludes, “These new models were conceived for the listener who truly and passionately cares about sound quality, first and foremost.”

 Hi Fi Components

Rotel believes that while the charms of such conveniences in this “content everywhere” age when you can fit an entire music library in a pocket-sized MP3 player are undeniable, there is a far more compelling musical experience to be had.

Continuing Henderson said, “Indeed, there is nothing more enjoyable than hearing a favorite artist in full lossless quality in the comfort of your own listening room through a high performance stereo system. Music comes alive in this setting, spreading out in a three dimensional space, revealing texture and dynamic nuance that makes music such a wonderful, life-enhancing experience.  Rotel has built its long reputation on providing outstanding music components and the 15 Series stereo range will allow music lovers to rediscover an entire collection the way it was meant to be heard.”

Stereo Integrated Amplifier

The RA-1520 is a music lover’s amplifier and is ideal as a stand-alone stereo system. Its muscular 2 x 60 watt (into 8 ohms) design is based upon nearly 50 years of expertise in analog audio engineering and it delivers all of the musical performance the artist intended. Subtle nuances and large dynamics are both rendered faithfully from uncompressed digital, or classic analog sources with the included moving magnet phono. To complete its functionality, as well as its superb performance capabilities, there are additional inputs for tuner, tape, CD and Aux.

 CD Player

CD players have been around for over twenty-five years and have enjoyed such a progression of quality that they can hardly be compared to the original players released in 1982.  Rotel has enjoyed a class leading reputation with CD player designs since the introduction of the landmark RCD-855 in 1990.

With the release of the RCD-1520, Rotel has produced a CD player that sets a new standard for the 21st century, taking full advantage of the vast wealth of music now available on compact discs. The RCD-1520 utilizes a segmented power supply with a large toroidal transformer to minimize power supply “sag” and reduce hum emissions. All rectifiers, voltage regulation components and BHC low-ESR storage capacitors are carefully selected, not only for tight tolerance specifications, but in particular, for their sound quality. Both analog and digital circuits undergo this careful scrutiny. For the digital domain, Rotel has specified the superb Wolfson DAC for advanced digital filtration and D/A conversion.  The CD transport is a high performance slot loading mechanism. The result of this attention to detail is a CD player that will remain a part of a reference audio system for years to come.

Stereo Preamplifiers

A preamplifier must keep the audio signal as pure as possible while amplifying and routing various source signals to the power amplifier. The goal of the engineer is to achieve “a straight wire with gain” design, nothing more and nothing less.  Of course, the realization of this goal is much harder than it seems, but Rotel’s experience and meticulous circuit design has produced a string of exceptional stereo preamplifiers over the years, which has been taken to new heights in the RC-1580.

The RC-1580 is designed for the hi-fi purist in terms of its minimalist approach and absolute musical fidelity. Component parts such as an oversized toroidal power transformer and special BHC capacitors, along with circuit topology, have been carefully selected to obtain the best sound possible.   For those who want the best of both audio and video worlds a unity gain stage has been included to enable a surround processor to feed straight through to the power amplifier thereby bypassing the volume control.  The RC-1580 includes a low noise MM/MC phono with discrete, differential input stages, as well as CD, Tuner, and two AUX inputs. The preamplifier can be controlled by RS-232, or IR input.  A tone defeat, media input socket, phones socket and remote control is included.

RC-1550

The RC-1550 delivers an extraordinary level of performance. Its rock-solid power supply is comprised of a custom made toroidal transformer and select grade BHC slit foil capacitors. RC-1550 features six line-level inputs in addition to a phono input for moving magnet cartridges. A convenient contour control allows easy and repeatable timbre adjustments. With two sets of main outputs, a 12 volt “trigger ” jack, and a Rotel-system remote control for both the pre-amplifier and a companion Rotel CD, tuner, or DVD player, the RC-1550 brings the flexibility and sound quality of Rotel separates within easy reach.

Stereo Power Amplifiers

Rotel has been engineering and manufacturing power amplifiers for decades and the two amplifiers presented here build on the company’s Balanced Design Concept engineering philosophy and feature refined Class AB output stages, over-sized power supplies with toroidal transformers and select grade components throughout.

Rugged, stable, and natural sounding, either model is the ideal foundation for a high performance music systems. Both feature 12-volt triggers for remote operation and include an IEC detachable power cord.   Power output configurations are 2 x 200 watts for the RB-1582 and 2 x 120 watts for the RB-1552. The on/off operation of the amplifiers can be remotely controlled by 12-volt triggers. Optional rack mount rails are available for custom installation requirements.

All models are available late first quarter or early second quarter 2009.

    “CLASSIC SYSTEM”

    – Anniversary System Features Two Classic Reissues; Company Will Also Showcase New Luxury Class MR88 AM/FM/XM/HD Tuner and MXA60 “Executive System” –

BINGHAMTON, NY, May 2, 2009 — McIntosh Laboratory will provide attendees of the sixth annual Audio Karma Fest in Livonia Michigan (May 2-3, 2009) with the first-ever live public demonstration of its special limited-edition 60th Anniversary “Classic System,” which features reissues of legendary components including the MC75 monoblock tube amplifier (modeled after the original 1961 version) and the C22 preamplifier (originally introduced in 1962). Both components, which will be demonstrated in McIntosh’s Room #355 at Audio Karma Fest, have been updated for use in today’s home entertainment universe. Currently available at select retailers, only 120 of the limited-edition systems will be available for purchase in North America.

For maximum impact, the 60th Anniversary Classic System will drive a pair of McIntosh’s recently introduced XR200 floor-standing loudspeakers (MSRP: $8,000 each). Source components that will provide content for the demonstration include McIntosh’s ultimate quality MT10 turntable (MSRP: $9,500) and MCD500 SACD/CD Player (MSRP: $6,500).

In addition to the demonstration of its 60th Anniversary classic system, McIntosh will demonstrate its new MR88 AM/FM/XM/HD Tuner (MSRP: $4,000) for the first time in public. Available for purchase in May, the MR88 provides users with unparalleled excellence in reception of traditional AM and FM broadcasts, as well as HD Radio™. With the capability to control a subscription based outboard XM Satellite Radio Tuner (sold separately) the XM Ready® MR88 accesses the power of satellite radio to complete a palette of unprecedented choice for the consumer. With these new expanded programming options, the MR88 is capable of delivering the ultimate fidelity. The MR88 features a visually striking front-panel dial scale in classic McIntosh glass styling for AM and FM tuning. When transmitted by the radio station, the two line multifunction fluorescent display indicates various text information such as artist name, station call sign, song title and music genre. The MR88’s Smooth Acting Weighted Tuning mechanism with Glass Dial and Illuminated Pointer recall the classic McIntosh tuner designs of the 1960’s and 1970’s.

MXA60: McIntosh’s First Integrated Audio System

Also on display at Audio Karma will be McIntosh’s first-ever tabletop integrated audio system, the MXA60 “Executive System.” Scheduled for availability in the third quarter of 2009, the ultimate-quality tabletop system features a high-performance 75-watt-per-channel amplifier, state-of-the-art CD/SACD/MP3 player, vacuum tube preamplifier, as well as an AM/FM/RBDS Tuner and loudspeaker system with two-way bass reflex. The MXA60 is scheduled for availability in the third quarter of 2009.

“Classic System”—Two Components that Defined the Age of High Fidelity

McIntosh president Charlie Randall noted: “Our 60th Anniversary classic system has been generating a great deal of excitement among audiophiles since we introduced it at CES in January, and we are delighted to be able to give the many dedicated enthusiasts and music lovers who will be attending Audio Karma Fest the first-ever live demonstration. This anniversary system reflects everything that has typified McIntosh throughout our history, namely providing discriminating customers with components that deliver the ultimate in listening luxury and performance, combining both classic McIntosh style with some of today’s most advanced audio technologies.”

The McIntosh MC75 75-watt per channel monoblock amplifier was introduced in 1961, just three years after the BBC began its first regular broadcasts in stereo sound. The debut of this ultimate-quality monoblock amp reflected McIntosh’s early and continuing commitment to pushing the limits of performance and providing customers with the very best solutions in audio. Largely true to the original design, the new Limited Edition MC75 offers many circuit updates that improve reliability while retaining the alluring sonic character of the original.

Introduced in 1962, the McIntosh C22 Tube Preamplifier ushered in the era of the audio preamp as the “control center”. Designed to function as a superb line stage, phono preamp, equalizer and input switch, the C22 raised the bar for competing preamplifiers, and forged a standard of features and flexibility for future McIntosh preamp designs that endures to this day. The 60th anniversary C22 recreates the look and feel of the original with its backlit glass and brushed anodized aluminum front panel, and sees the addition of a number of circuit enhancements that bring the design current with recent McIntosh preamplifier specifications.

Joseph D’Appolito’s name is synonymous with the paired-vertical array widely accepted as the ideal arrangement of dynamic transducers. An internationally recognized authority in acoustics, speaker design and measurement techniques, Dr. D’Appolito has been Snell’s chief engineer since joining the company in 2003 and has spearheaded the design of many of the company’s products, including Snell’s new flagship Illusion Reference Tower. which is now incorporated into the designs of many premium quality speakers designed and manufactured in Europe, Asia and the U.S. The technique, when properly executed, sandwiches a tweeter between two vertically aligned midrange drivers – so that the tweeter’s output is directed primarily at listeners in the horizontal plane, minimizing reflections with the floor and ceiling, resulting in increased clarity and a broader “sweet spot.”

Dr. D’Appolito is best known for designing the popular loudspeaker geometry commonly known as the “D’Appolito Array,”

In addition to designing the D’Appolito Array, Dr. D’Appolito has been at the forefront of high-performance commercial loudspeaker design for over twenty years. Prior to joining Snell, he was instrumental in the design of more than 80 loudspeaker systems and related audio engineering projects.

Dr. D’Appolito is the author of the world’s authoritative book on loudspeaker testing, Testing Loudspeakers (Audio Amateur Press). In addition, he has contributed widely to both the technical and popular literature on loudspeaker and crossover design. He has served as Contributing Technical Editor for popular books on home and auto loudspeaker construction published by Master Publishing, and has authored more than 30 journal and conference papers covering applications of modern estimation and control theory, statistical signal processing, stochastic systems identification and modeling, and a broad range of navigation, guidance, communications and signal processing issues.

New LP12 SE Upgrades deliver vinyl performance that’s simply out of this world

    Friday, May 1st, 2009

“Simply the biggest performance improvement from an LP12 upgrade ever”

Ivor Tiefenbrun, Linn Founder, CEO and Inventor of Sondek LP12

    ·         LP12 SE now represents a new pinnacle in turntable performance

    ·         Two new upgrades offer a completely new and improved way of powering and amplifying the LP12

    ·         More music, even less noise – deliver even more value from your cherished vinyl collection

    ·         A new level of platter accuracy means your records always spin at the perfect speed every time you switch on

The new Radikal DC motor control and Urika phono stage upgrades elevate the performance of our flagship turntable to such a high level they immediately assume their place within our coveted LP12 SE series, which now represents a new pinnacle in turntable performance.

The upgrades deliver the biggest performance improvement from an LP12 ever.  The new designs offer a completely new way of powering and amplifying your turntable to retrieve and protect the source signal to a far greater degree than ever before.

The new Radikal DC motor, control unit and power supply offers a new level of speed accuracy, as well as radically reduced electrical and mechanical noise.

With an on-board speed management system which auto-calibrates the turntable for accurate motor speed control (using technology from Klimax DS), manual speed adjustment is no longer required.

The new brushed DC motor has a very low magnetic field as well as very low electrical noise, and is housed in a machined casing designed to reduce vibration and resonance.

The Radikal motor control unit and power supply is encased in an elegant and timeless Linn chassis, available in black or silver.  The same product can also be ordered in a velvet-touch ‘machined-from-solid’ aluminium chassis to match a Klimax system if required.

Urika, the new phono stage, is located in the best possible place for no-holds barred performance – inside the deck.  This new internal location is only made possible by the introduction of the DC motor.  This prime position greatly reduces the signal path, minimising loss of information from the cartridge and maximising performance.

Other major design enhancements to the phono stage include a new screened and balanced T-Kable and a dual mono phono design.  The new T-Kable is directly soldered to the phono stage and delivers an improved signal-to-noise ratio, whilst increased flexibility enables the suspension to work more effectively without interference.  The dual mono phono design provides dedicated circuitry for each channel to minimise cross-talk.

The new LP12 SE upgrades can now be auditioned at Linn Turntable Specialists worldwide, many of whom are also hosting an ‘Out of this World – LP12 SE’ Event.  Find out more and book a place on www.linn.co.uk
