This Amp is a Beast
written by Peter S. , December 15, 2008

I have had this amp since mid-August and it has brought my dedicated two channel listening to a whole new level. This amp will take anything you through at it, chew it up and spit it out.

An absolutely amazing amp. Then you figure in the cost and it is quite possibly one of the best audio bargains out there.

Class A Linearity Measurements
written by Josuah , December 17, 2008

Does the claim of superior linearity in class A amplifiers still hold true in comparison to the latest class D amplifiers?

I'm also curious as to your opinion of the measurements. While overall everything seems great for the price point, measurements done on the Lexicon ZX-7 are better. The Outlaw 200 monoblocks are worse. It would be nice to have a comment in the review about how one might interpret the measurements.

I might add an overlooked "feature" of this amp....it is backed by stellar customer service people that are both knowledgeable and courteous.

This seems to be what I hear all the time about this amp. But what about detail, resolution, and quality of sound. Not just that it has lots of power.

This amp is everything and more.

I love how this amplifier fleshes out the details that my other amplifiers just glossed over. I am talking about Rotels, and Nads and an Acurus for instance that just doesn't compete with it. I have had all three at one time or another. Big sound, detailed sound and control too.

Even my Vincent SP-331 hybrid tube/solid state amplifier which was a favorite of mine, still is in many ways, but the Emotiva just raises my listening enjoyment to new levels while not killing my finances in the process. And yes, Emotiva's customer service is tops.

go emotiva

i own the epa2 and epa5, befor that i had the rotel 200 watt per channel and the brand new 250 watt rotel digital amp cost 3000.00 dollars , and i have now sold them both ,the emotiva made them both sound bad ,detail in the music was so much better, emos great amps, Rick

sonic bliss
written by doug , June 01, 2009

I have the emotiva xpa-2 paired with the reference class emotiva 2 channel processor rsp-2 and the detail soundstage and clarity gets me all the way to that sonic bliss at half the price. Gotta love it.

Why so few in-depth reviews of Emotiva in the audio press?
written by David Wynsen , June 28, 2009

Does Emotiva embarrass the rest? Does Emotiva 2-channel sound obviate the need for the hyper-expensive equipment that the audio press is so fond of? Is that the reason there are so few mainstream reviews? Does Emotiva 2-channel make the high-end somewhat irrelevant? It makes me wonder if the astronomical prices of equipment reviewed by Stereophile and The Absolute Sound are simply (now) unnecessary -- if they ever were. If true, Emotiva will kill their business, so why would they review Emotiva? I'm curious.

Comments would be appreciated.

P.S. I have heard all manner of high-end stereo electronics -- I've even owned some of it as my budget will allow.

Bought out perhaps are the big money folks
written by jtmjnow , October 02, 2009

I am only intuiting that big money amp folks may be purchasing their ads with big money. I just wonder if any magazines may just be bought out. I belive the integrity and low key approach to Emo really shines and what folks are really looking to. They seem to take a humble approach and thier customer service is stellar to say the least. I won't have anything to do with the big money folks and too I am not a big money person. I believe Emotiva is more word of mouth and internet savy.
Go Emotiva!

Praise to the Xpa-2 right?
written by JTB , November 04, 2009

I'm more curious about the xpa-5. Seems I can find review on top of review on the xpa-2, but what about the xpa-5 for people that barely have enough to buy one amp and definitely not 2?! There's only 50 watt difference (put on your thinking caps, which one has more wattage total?) but yet the price is what $100 less on special? I'd like to think the xpa-5 in stereo mode could put out nearly the juice of the xpa-2 with the same quality sound, but also run all 5 speakers for ht? Anyone agree?
Or is it that the xpa-2 is the only way to go if you're looking at emotiva's amps?

Pre-amp Voltage Output
written by Barb in Jersey , November 07, 2009

Much has been made on the Emo website about not matching these amps with a pre-pro that has a low, pre-amp voltage output. All Integra pre-pros are 1.0v, fixed. Do you think this really makes that much of a difference? Really need the features offered by the DHC-40.1, but unclear if it will truly limit my XPA-2 and XPA-5's capabilities. Your thoughts are much appreciated!
