Sharp Electronics Wireless LCD Flat Panel Display

January 18, 2004

Making truly digital wireless TV a reality, Sharp Electronics Corporation debuts the first battery-operated LCD television in the U.S. For the first time, consumers may enjoy crystal-clear TV, video and DVD enjoyment virtually anywhere in the home without wires. The new 15-inch Wireless AQUOS Television (model LC-15L1U-S) has an attractive style that matches any home décor. It features sculpted, rounded stereo side speakers and a built-in carrying handle and table stand, which makes it easy to move the TV from room to room. A rechargeable battery provides consumers with enough power to watch up to three hours of TV on the patio without interruption.

“The Wireless AQUOS launch reaffirms Sharp’s worldwide leadership in the Liquid Crystal Television (LC - TV) industry* by once again providing consumers with an unprecedented television option – an easy-to-use, extremely portable, stylish home entertainment solution,” said Tony Favia, senior product manager, LC - TV, Sharp. “Today’s design-conscious customers demand high-performance and high-style televisions. By creating innovative LCD technologies, we will continue to captivate consumers with unique AQUOS Liquid Crystal TVs that meet their desires and needs.”

The wireless TV features a new, sleek, silver design created by world-class industrial designer Toshiyuki Kita, who created the high-style look for the entire AQUOS line and whose artwork is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art. The set uses Sharp’s SmartLink wireless digital audio video transmission system, which operates on the 802.11B wireless standard. It allows users to connect the transmitter to a video source, such as a DVD player, and watch their favorite movie or TV show in any room of the house. The system transmits digital wireless signals using the 2.4 GHz band high-speed spectrum wireless protocols. The built-in, rechargeable high-capacity lithium-ion battery provides approximately three hours of viewing time, allowing plenty of time to enjoy an entire movie, either indoors or out.
As with previous AQUOS models, the LC-15L1U-S uses an Advanced Super View (ASV) panel with Sharp’s proprietary “Black TFT” low-reflection coating so it can be placed anywhere – even near windows, doors or other light sources without sacrificing picture quality. The unit also offers 170-degree viewing angles, enabling consumers to watch TV clearly from anywhere in the room, as well as high contrast for clear vivid pictures, and high brightness for blacker blacks and exceptional color clarity.

The Sharp Wireless AQUOS Liquid Crystal Television offers the following features:
• 15-inch screen size with silver cabinet that is less than three-inches thin
• SmartLink digital wireless transmission system uses the spread-spectrum 802.11b standard to enable clear viewing anywhere in the home, up to 100 feet from the transmitter
