Pioneers of Home Audio:
Both Hechts are engineers who are fully involved in the development of Phase
Technology home-entertainment speakers. Their products constantly earn critical
acclaim in the home-theater and audiophile media. Bill Hechts career began with
his involvement in the development of Cinemascope stereo technology for
motion-picture projection in the early 1950s. In 1959, Avery Fisher commissioned
Hechts United Speaker to build the first Fisher loudspeakers. The result was
the legendary XP-1 bookshelf system, solidly establishing Fisher as a major
brand in the home-audio marketplace.
In the years that followed, the company grew into a vertically integrated
speaker designer and manufacturer. Today, the company continues to serve some of
the most familiar brands in audio. The companys vertical integration begins
with producing all of its own sub-assemblies including constructing drivers
and crossovers as well as winding voice coils. It also established a
state-of-the-art cabinet shop, including a massive four-head 8.5-ton CNC
computer-driven router to design and build its wood speaker cabinets. All Phase
Technology speakers are constructed at the companys Jacksonville, Florida
headquarters facility.
Patented Technology:
The companys Phase Technology line of speakers incorporates many of the Hechts
innovations, including technologies for which they hold many patents. These
include the soft-dome tweeter, invented by Bill Hecht and now an industry
standard. Other patents cover the self-damping woofer voice coil, the
manufacturing process for flat-piston midrange drivers and woofers,
silicone-injected drivers for resonance damping, and the positive-clamping
mounting system for the premier in-wall Model CI-110/II. The company also
developed the Unicell Zero-Diffraction treatment that reduces acoustic
reflections off cabinet and grille surfaces. United Speaker has earned ISO 9001
certification for its manufacturing quality-control procedures.
The Fifth Decade:
Phase Technology Corp. continues to expand today as an innovative designer of
home-theater and audiophile speakers. The company also successfully transferred
its talents to installed, in-wall speakers when its Custom Installation Series
became one of the pioneers of that dynamic marketplace. As the company enters
its next decade of audio excellence, it is not only keeping march with the
times, but leading the parade as well. This is underscored by the fact that
Phase Technologys newest home-entertainment speakers have been honored with
numerous CES Innovations Design & Engineering Awards. This prestigious
recognition program is sponsored by the International Consumer Electronics Shows
and endorsed by the Industrial Designers Society of America. As one of the few
remaining made-in-America speaker brands, Phase Technology holds a special
position in the marketplace and constantly reinforces its leadership with
stylized designs, technological advances, and breakthrough innovation.
About Phase Technology:
Phase Technology Corporation (toll-free at 888-PHASE TK; website at

speaker manufacturers. The company designs and produces virtually all of its own
sub-assemblies -- including fabricating drivers and crossovers as well as
winding voice coils -- and also builds most of its wood speaker cabinets. All
Phase Technology home-theater, audiophile and in-wall custom installed speakers
are constructed at the company's Jacksonville, Florida headquarters facility.
