InterVideo Unleashes New Era in Home PC/CE Convergence with Launch of InterVideo
InstantON
Turns PCs into Consumer Electronic Devices with Power-up in
about 10 Seconds and Remote Control Access for a Full Range of Home
Entertainment Options
InterVideo, Inc. (Nasdaq:IVII), a leading provider of
middleware solutions to tier-one consumer electronics and PC manufacturers,
announced today InterVideo InstantON, an innovative new software solution that
converts home PCs into complete home entertainment centers. InterVideo InstantON
is unique in that it provides instant, CE-like access to a full range of
viewing, listening and recording options plus remote control support for a
distance of up to 10 feet.
With InterVideo InstantON, computers instantly come to life with the push of a
button. Consumers can watch DVDs and home VCDs with outstanding clarity, record
videos, browse through photo albums, listen to music with rich surround sound,
or watch TV with time-shifting capabilities. Playback is enhanced with advanced
navigation technology that allows users to skip DVD chapters, fast
forward/backward, pause and enjoy different camera angles. InterVideo InstantON
even includes basic editing tools which when combined with the software's
built-in DVR capabilities, allow users to cut, merge and split recorded TV
programs and videos.
InterVideo InstantON can also be used to control the home environment, to
conduct research on the Web, to shop and communicate with friends via E-mail,
chat rooms, and videophone. With instant access and the remote control, moving
from one entertainment device to another is as fast and easy as changing the
channel on a TV set.
InterVideo, a member the Intel(R) Developer Network for the Digital Home,
designed its new InterVideo InstantON to take advantage of the power and
performance of Intel's Pentium(R) processors and to provide consumers with true
convergence of their digital assets. With InstantON, a single PC can be used for
both computing tasks and entertainment. Intel's vision of the digital home is
becoming a reality.
InterVideo InstantON is a new software solution that leverages the reliability
and power of InterVideo LinDVD(R), the playback/navigation software selected by
companies such as SONY, Pioneer and others for their high-end CE devices. The
Instant Media Technology (IMT) technology incorporated in the new Linux(R)-based
software integrates the BIOS, OS, power management, and noise control with
InterVideo's media playback/recording/editing technology, enabling consumers to
enjoy the Instant access and remote control-only CE experience on their PC.
After a brief boot-up in Linux (about 10 seconds), all of the CE-type activities
consumers have come to expect from a complete home entertainment center can be
accessed. With InterVideo InstantON's dual-boot configuration, users can move
into the Windows(R) mode (which requires the full Windows load time) when they
want to use the PC to access their work-related files.
Like its industry leading WinDVD(R) software, InterVideo InstantON is a CSS-licensed
software solution that provides crystal-clear DVD playback at full video frame
rates. Dolby(R) AC3 5.1-channel surround sound is also included to provide a
rich, enveloping audio experience.
"InterVideo InstantON is designed to help OEMs differentiate their products from
the competition and quickly bring them to market," said Steve Ro, CEO and
founder of InterVideo. "This is a totally new concept in PC/CE convergence that
even people who have never used a computer can enjoy because it is a remote
control-only solution. A keyboard and a mouse aren't required."
Ro added that initially, OEMs will integrate InstantON with their computers to
add CE capabilities but he envisions a new market emerging where PCs that don't
even offer computing software will sit alongside the living room TV to provide
video and music playback as well as TV/PVR functions, digital video recording
and Web capabilities.
Availability
InterVideo InstantON is currently available from InterVideo only to OEMs for
evaluation and integration and is not sold as stand-alone retail software. The
modular nature of the product enables OEMs and middleware developers to create
customized solutions and to incorporate only the features that are required for
a particular device. To meet individual OEM requirements, InterVideo InstantON
is offered on a range of operating systems including Linux, Windows and WinCE.
InstantON also supports a variety of different CPUs (x86 and non-x86).
InterVideo also offers consulting services to assist OEM InstantON customers
with product planning and customization, hardware driver fine-tuning,
Inter-company software integration, planning test procedures and product
updates.
