Conclusions

Earthquake Sound has hit a home run with its iQuake IQ-52. At $475, it is at the upper end of the price spread for iPod docks, but as for features and performance, it sits at the top. Recommending the iQuake to iPod fans is simply a no-brainer.

Care to name those other speakers ?

"Seriously, I have heard larger, more expensive bookshelf speakers that didn't sound this good."

Thanks

It would not be fair to name specific brands and models, because there are several and I don't want to pick on one and not the others. Also, I prefer not to say X sounds better than Y in a subjective statement. Everyone's ears, brain, and preferences are different.

worthy comparision
written by dipen , April 06, 2009

how does this compare to Audioengine A5. Both are exact same in size, same woofer and tweeter materials, same finish, same dimentions, same back panel (except A5 does not have a universal ipod dock and sub-out). Both retail for 300-325 dollars in the retail and internet stores. Also the rated output of A5 may be slightly lower. But the Iquake does not specify the RMS output, but should be approx 50 RMS watts per channel.

iQuake vs A5

both are great to give a generic answer. the iQuake plays louder more cleanly. The A5 may have a ever so slight edge with SQ (maybe) but the dynamic capability of the EQ more than makes up for it. The remote of the Earthquake is also another benfit that gives it a big edge in convenience and value. For my money, I would (and did) go for the Earthquake.

Iquake compititors

how does this compare to the A5 and Iquake. Can you rate them in an order only with respect to SQ. Sierra may be low on sound (only comparatively), but they retail for dollars. So just wanna know if its bang for the buck.

Are they any other powered bookshelves that you would recommend in sub $500 range other than KRK RP5 ?
What are your thoughts on the Aktimate speakers though double the price of the Iquake ?

this meant "Sierra Sound IN studio" in the above post.

where to buy?
written by Heather , June 28, 2009

Does anyone know where to get iQuakes? I went on the Earthquake sound website, but their "store finder" feature just gave me errors. It is nowhere to be found in the usual spots (amazon, eBay, best buy, etc), and even a Google search just turned up reviews without any info about where to buy.
Thanks!!
