Conclusions The ULS-15 is the latest in a long line of excellent subwoofers from Hsu Research. It produces low frequency output, with superb transient response. I’d particularly recommend it for anyone using a sub in a critical music listening environment, and would not hesitate to put one into my home recording rig. If I were purchasing the ULS-15 for my own home theater system, I would get the DualDrive. For $2,199, you get two ULS-15’s, which dramatically increases total output, and provides better control of room modes. Now, about those main speakers. Every once in a while, I come across a product that performs at a level so far above its price point it is shocking. The HB-1 and HC-1 MK 2 speakers fall into that category. Simply put, I was amazed that a $150 bookshelf speaker and $239 center channel speaker could sound that good. Highly recommended! Comments (9)

Distortion numbers at other freqs?
written by Cacimar , November 06, 2008 Hi, WHat were the distortion numbers of the ULS at 30hz? 40hz?,50hz, 80hz?
...
written by JEJ , November 07, 2008 The distortion numbers for 30, 40, 50, 80 Hz, and other frequencies are shown in the THD plus N vs. Frequency graph. I show the specific 20 Hz distortion spectrum just to have an idea of the relative harmonic peaks at one frequency.
Heir to Titan?
written by Kieran Coghlan , November 07, 2008 Ross, Are you familiar with the Pardigm Titan bookshelf speakers? Paradigm recently "updated" ( =discontinued, IMO) the old bookshelf stalwart Titans (which Brian Florian reviewed here http://www.hometheaterhifi.com...akers.html ). Your high recommendation and the low price point (Titan v2's were around $200 I think) made me wonder if these HSU HB-1 speakers could be considered the heir to the old Titan's throne? I love my Titans and used to recommend them a lot to people just entering in to the realm of "good" audio since they were so affordable. I've been looking for something in their stead to recommend now. Sounds like the HSU HB-1's might be the ticket.
Are they better?
written by Scott , January 17, 2009 I was considering the HB-1 book shelfs to replace my current surround speakers in a 7.1 configuration. I now wonder if I should consider the HB-1 and HC to replace my Main speakers, which are MTX AAL 1240's 200 watt with 50hz-22khz full range 4-way speakers and MTX center channel 100watt 525SB 100hz-20khz. Would I hear are notice a huge improvement in sound quality in a home theater set-up. I currently have (1)VTF3 MK3 sub from HSU, which is outstanding. my surronds are low end bose and yamaha. Any advice would be appreciated.
92 dB sensitivity misleading
written by aaron d , February 04, 2009 this is not a one watt rating its at 2.83 volts 1 watt for 8 ohm speakers. these are 6 ohm speakers and should be measured at 2.45 volts for one watt rating. at least they don't say its a one watt rating. so they know that they are misleading the unknowing consumer on purpose. not telling a lie.
...
written by JEJ , February 05, 2009 In the specifcation box, they state Sensitivity: 92 dB / 1m / 2.83V in half space. Therefore, the exact conditions for that 92 dB sensitivity measurement are stated. They are not misleading anyone. Many companies just say 92 dB without the rest of the information. Those are the ones that can be confusing.
Center Channel Replacement
written by Jason Massie , February 09, 2009 I have an Energy AC-300 center that seems a little 'canny' at times. Do you think the HSU center would be a vast improvement? Also looking for my best subwoofer option under $1000. I am running an NAD T785 with Piega TP 5 fronts, Def. Tech sub (no model number on the sub, entry level 10") and Platinum PT 801's for surround. My listening room is 12Wx20Lx8H. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

ULS 15 vs. MK 3 HO with TURBO
written by Snak3s , February 13, 2009 How do these subs compare below 25hz? I was planning on buying a mk3 HO with turbo this spring. Through contact with HSU, I learned that the HO sub and the turbo have been discontinued. I can't get a straight answer from them about the perforance of their new sub. All signs point to HSU pushing "new, more expensive, wireless connection..." as opposed to building a product with superior performance. I don't care about running a subwoofer cable. Everybody reading this has one. I do care that they want to charge $400 more for a "new and improved" sub with what appears to be less than HALF the output at 18hz. Any comparison/ first hand experience? Write comment
