THX Ltd., the leading provider of technologies, certification programs and quality assurance standards for the entertainment industry, today announced that four THX Certified DVDs received technical honors from the Video Software Dealers Association (VSDA) at their annual Home Entertainment Awards earlier this month. The THX winners were: "The Adventures Of Indiana Jones" from Paramount Home Entertainment; "Alien Quadrilogy" from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment; and "Finding Nemo" and "Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl," both from Buena Vista Home Entertainment.
The VSDA winners were determined by a panel of expert judges from the editorial communities of the home entertainment and consumer electronics industries. Each DVD was reviewed for both audio and visual quality, as well as menu features and bonus material. THX Digital Works provided DVD mastering and quality control services for the post-production of four of the USDA winners. THX Digital Works worked closely with the studios and DVD producers to ensure the integrity of the sound and visuals were maintained throughout the production chain, from DVD mastering through compression and disc check.
"THX was proud to play a role in creating some of the year's best DVD technical presentations," said David Dancyger, general manager of THX Digital Works. "Today's studios realize that consumers are becoming more critical about the sound and visual quality of DVDs. That's why THX Certification continues to be sought by the studios and consumers, and year-after-year THX Certified DVDs are among the industry's top-selling."
Market research has shown that consumers want, and are even willing to pay extra for better DVD sound and picture quality, as well as improvements to the reliability of the discs. The THX Digital Works business was created to address such quality issues. The company leverages its experience in cinema, film post-production and consumer electronics to ensure THX Certified DVDs deliver a superior entertainment experience-from both a presentation and usability perspective. In addition, THX Certified DVDs include THX Optimizer, a calibration tool that lets consumers set their entertainment systems for the best possible home playback.
