Seems like a good way to round up some activity during this depressed economic time. While i certainly agree that the Caps wear out,the power regulators either work or break. Unless Naim has changed to better transistors. - fred

USB termination?

"But, in honor of Naim’s fastidious roots, the USB connection is Type A (flat, rectangular) rather than the typical Type B (square). The reason being that power is also conveyed on Type B connections. If that is power from your computer, not so good."

Rick I think you're a bit confused here! The type of USB termination has absolutely no influence on whether or not there is power running through the cable. Type A to A USB cables still have four conductors, two of which are the computer's ground and its 5V bus. It doesn't matter how you configure this, it still gets carried through the cable whether it's A-A or A-B cable. Of course Naim can opt to power their own DAC and ignore the bus power, but they'll need to use the ground and they'll need to detect the power to signal to turn the DAC on. Best way they could do this is self-powered DAC and galvanic isolating the ground. - Michael Woods

It was a lot of fun. We have learned a lot about the Northwest market. And we have learned that it is a lot of WORK doing it on the road.

cheers

Nice article. Really gives me something to think about. Wonder when technology will replace caps with something better and longer lasting? - JM7043
