If I understand right, it does have this now or will have it soon. re: expensive HDMI switch, first of all, many HDMI switchers are 400 - 500 already, and if you need an audio delay device that is decent quality those are another 200 - 300. Hey, I still have VHS and S-VHS tapes and running them through the DVDO results in surprisingly good results. I absolutely need HDMI switching and audio delay device, so for an additional $100 I also get best of brand upscaling that exists without spending > 2k. Oh - and DVDs still have a place for another 2 - 4 years price-wise. If you want to buy TV series, they are *a lot* cheaper in DVD vs Blu-Ray. If you only have a DVD to process, then you don't really need a full blown processor. Most DVDs will do fine with a good built in deinterlacer (the oppo does far more than fine in this respect) as the source is almost exclusively FILM based. The real benefit here is processing of video sources, which are found today in broadcasting far more than they appear on DVDs. About the unit being an Expexsive Switch. As far as I can see, if your sources are purely 1080i or higher, then you really don't need a processor. Most displays will do a more than adequate job today at deinerlacing it and we rarely see displays that bob/weave anymore (there are some exceptions to this rule). VPs really come in handy when you have a few sources, particularly when some of these are still SDTV. I presently prefer the DVDO DL algorithm to the HQV. First, the deinterlacing is slightly better (or shell I say "different"). Both rarely fail my personal torture test, but they do fail them in different areas, so there's a trade off there. The ABT1020 fails a bit less than the original ABT102 DL algorithm, though. HQV has also been improved and stabilized and Reon does quite nicely. I don't see any Reon based dedicated VPs, so I can't really compare them under the exact same test conditions, so it's currently an apples vs. oranges situation... Money to burn, if you ask me, there's no comparison. While I have not tested the 5308, in my mind there is no way an AVR today can come close to a dedicated VP. While you get 100 different audio tweaks, most of which require a PhD to understand or figure out (my current AVR has a book that is bigger than the new and old testements put together, and that's just the English version). Yet, these AVRs usually don't have even the minimal amount of VP menus, except for the ability to turn processing on or off. I think they should stop kidding themselves and either rename the field "ARs" or truly start implementing VP functions into their AVRs, they can start by adding test patterns and aspect ratio controls. About Automatic de-interlacing, that's correct. The only features you can tweak is to force the unit into game mode. The quick response to that is that under the current DL implementation, the film bias is really unecessary. The automatic sensing and processing of video vs. film reached such a level of accuracy I rarely even bother touching these menus on the VP50pro.
