OJ,I begg to suggest that you need to spend more time setting these subs up. Room, Room placement, crossover freq, volume, listening chair placement are all critical.
I have two 12's and not one bit boomy but can be if incorrectly adjusted.
Mine produce deep full bass to 20hz when its present on the recording, otherwise they hardly move.
Subwoofers are hard to get sounding right and its easy to write them off.

I finally got to listen to the JL subwoofers.I was to say the least unimpressed. it is a Boomy loud hit you over the head type of subwoofer.I think it was probably strongest around 55 or 60 hz thats by my ear and it really missed the bottom octave of my telarc test material.I was seriously seriously let down since i have listened to JL subwoofers since Lous White mustang GT with the four 8`s in it.SVS has a sub (PB12 plus) for about half the money that will walk all over this sub,but i guess thats the tradeoff for a small sealed system.i am just amazed that these things are in a subwoofer class when sub frequncies are its weak point. - OJ stevenson

All deep bass suffers when you turn the volume down, regardless of the subwoofer. This is because of our hearing sensitivity, not because of a fault in the subwoofer. Some receivers have compensation for this (it used to be called the "Loudness" control), but for two-channel setups where there is no bass management, I generally just turn the volume control on the subwoofer up a bit when I am listening at low volume. - JEJ

I too would like to know how the F112 copes with low volume 2-channel listening. Not too low though.

Anybody? - VS

F112 or F113

First of all...the review was serious. It makes me believe you can answer a question that is killing me. I really don't watch many movies...but my music can sometimes dig deep into the 20's (Hz) region. So...at low volumes...which Fathom (12 or 13) can get the job done? And...still sound good above 30hz? - BJ

Seems I'll be getting the 113 soon and wonder what it will sound like with my Monitor Audio PL300s?? Using a Parasound A-51, a Krell HTS 7.1 and Esoteric X-03se for the source. What do think? Holy #@$*!!!! I think it might sound fffing great!! - R Taylor

Thanks for the great review. I won an F112 in a contest and feel like the luckiest guy on earth. Running it in conjunction with an Earthquake MKIV12 Supernova, I easily understand your "cold sweated giggling little girl" metaphor. This sub never fails to make me smile when it's pushed. - J in Pennsylvania

I won an F112 in a giveaway on ModernHomeTheater.com.

I don't have the pure bliss of running two F112's but I do run mine in conjunction with an Earthquake Sound MKIV12. The quote about the cold sweat, home alone, giggling like a little girl moment so hit home. Every so often I get my house to myself and I'll rip some music that absolutely shakes the house. I love my Fathom. - J in Pennsylvania

I believe the speakers JL will release will be satellite speakers, not full range.

Also, they are working on an F212. It looks like two F112s stacked but apparently uses new drivers that sound even better.

Although I have not put the JL Audio on the bench, I suspect the SVS 12 inch subs with long throw drivers and big amplifiers are equivalent in output. The F-112 has more flexibility with its range of controls, and is correspondingly, more expensive (it's also available only through dealers, not on the Internet). - JEJ

How would you compare this sub to an SVS sub? Does SVS have anything that is comparable to this or even better?

Good review.

We're all adults here. And the Fathoms indisputably $#*&#xin;g rock!

You might mention somewhere that there's a big brother model in the line, too, for people who want even more of the "sloppy wet dream" effect. ;) - Phlebas

I think before they get to those measurements, they are going to have to figure out how they let this review get published with all the %^&#ing profanity that he used when he $#^! his pants just after he fell in love with the JL F112... !!!!

Great Review Colin !!!!

I think that's the strangest Colin Miller review I've ever read. A nice read. :)

Will there be measurements for this or does the shipping preclude that? I believe other sites have measurements of the F112 up. - Josuah
