Room, Room placement, crossover freq, volume, listening chair placement are all critical. I have two 12's and not one bit boomy but can be if incorrectly adjusted. Mine produce deep full bass to 20hz when its present on the recording, otherwise they hardly move. This is because of our hearing sensitivity, not because of a fault in the subwoofer. I don't have the pure bliss of running two F112's but I do run mine in conjunction with an Earthquake Sound MKIV12. Also, they are working on an F212.
