CES 2008 Show Report - John Johnson
Thursday, January 3rd, 2008OK guys, if you want a blog for a show report, I will give you a friggin’ blog. I guess that is what everyone wants these days, especially since readers can post their own comments about what we say and tell us how moronic our opinions are, or maybe that you actually agree.
Anyway, CES 2008 starts up on Monday, January 7 and goes through the 10th in Las Vegas. We hope you appreciate how we trudge through millions of dollars of the world’s best toys for consumer electronics lovers. I guess somebody has to do it. I remember the first CES I attended about 15 years ago. I didn’t get much business accomplished, as I was just too awed by all the great stuff. So, now when one of our writers attends with us for the first time, we watch his expression when he hits the floor on the first day.
I really don’t know what to expect this year. HDTV is not new anymore, so the huge displays of flat panel TVs pretty much just look like the displays down at Best Buy. Speaking of flat panel TVs, I understand that some huge factories overseas are just about to come on-line, which means that there is going to be even more competition to sell product, because the market will be flooded with TVs. So, if you think HDTVs are cheap now, just wait until mid-2008. The one I am hoping for is a 65″ 1080p LCD flat panel for about $5,000. And, in talking about price, I really am hoping that manufacturers don’t start building them so cheaply that the quality deteriorates and we end up with a high defect rate. I mean, aren’t we all willing to pay for some quality, but it just can’t be a fortune?
Each of our staff who is attending CES will be doing their own blog, and you will be able to comment on any and all of the blog show reports. You are welcome to make comments and ask questions. The staff member for each blog will answer your questions here in the blogs, and maybe even go and get a photo of something you want to see but has not been shown on the blogs yet.
