What you mean by "overrated" is that they are really expensive. This is a "value" issue. Are they worth the money for the performance they deliver? Some will say no, and others will say yes. A few people will just write a check for this stuff. I saved for two years so I could afford a pair of McIntosh MC1201 power amplifiers. They produce 1200 watts RMS. 150 pounds each. I should know the weight very well as I tore a shoulder rotator cuff while trying to move the first one. I haven't measured distortion at full output because I don't want to set the lab on fire, but at the level I did test, distortion was 0.001%. To some, that kind of power and the price to get it are ridiculous. To me, it's heaven.

I attended this great event yesterday. The picture from this monster was terrific. For all the hoopla about the resolution, what distinguished it from the images in the other rooms was the natural look of the display, not the sharpness. One more time...upscaling an image can improve it, but it will NOT increase the resolution. I hope I live long enough to see source material that is 4000 x 2400. We will be storing it on our 100 terabyte drives.

At $166,000 less, the Kuro projector was better in some ways...yes the blacks were terrific. Sonically, this show proved that Meridian and Wilson (along with McIntosh) are among the most overrated products in audio. Magnepan stole the show here, and actually introduced a new product. It's a center channel with a true ribbon tweeter. The Meridian D-ILA was great (no doubt the superb Stewart Cinecurve screen helped), but reviews of the Pio and Magnepan stuff that real people might be able to afford would be more useful.
