I "guessed wrong" as well, primarily owing to cost. I wanted to see for myself, on my gear, if up-grading to HDM was worth it (my SD DVDs look very good with my setup, so I wanted to be sure). I chose HD DVD because it was a cheaper experiment. While with some titles the differences are small, with a number of titles (Blade Runner, for example) the difference over my SD copy of the Director's Cut is phenomenal. A few other titles are also quite spectacular (among the relative few I've watched--about 20 or so). So, while I "guessed wrong", I have no regrets as I now know HDM is worth the effort. I will admit to being stunned at the speed the "war" ended (though the Warner's announcement should have made it clear to me--of the 21 titles on my shelf (not all watched yet), 19 are Warner titles. I have about another 20 or so on the way and they are about 70% Warner titles as well).

I was planning to amass a larger HD DVD library, but with this past week's events, I will restrict future purchases to those titles that are HD DVD exclusive at the moment that I want and any serious bargains for those that are not exclusive. And I will start looking for a Blu-ray player.

On Tuesday the 19th of February, Toshiba said that it would cease production of its HD DVD players and close out the business by the end of March. As I said in the blog; this is good new and bad news, but at least the issue is resolved.
